Running for DEMOCRATIC NOMINATION..
LONG ARTICLE SNIP...
The suits mainly revolved around episodes that happened on four lanes - known in court as rights of way A, B, C and D, which connected their adjoining properties. Both sides alleged the other blocked the lanes, preventing access to their homes. Both sides made allegations including assault and trespass against the other.
The suits asked the court to stop the other side from blocking the lanes and sought monetary damages for alleged hardships.
The three siblings and their children confronted each other repeatedly on the lanes.
They exchanged punches and protection-from-abuse orders.
The Simpsons alleged in a 1996 lawsuit that Dale repeatedly blocked the lanes with school buses, police cruisers, rocks, dirt and snow to prevent them from accessing their home. He also dug trenches across the lanes, they said.
Dale denied the charges, claiming the reverse was true. The Simpsons, he said, were blocking the roads and harassing him, and digging trenches.
Both sides apparently dug trenches. When one would be out digging, someone from the other side would shout obscenities from their properties, come out to take pictures, or worse.
During one such confrontation in March 1998, Dale claimed Betsy hit him in the side of the head with a piece of asphalt as he was taking pictures of the Simpsons digging. Betsy alleged Dale punched her in the stomach and knocked her down. In the protection-from-abuse order she filed, Betsy claimed Dale threw himself to the ground, began writhing around and hit himself in the head with rocks he picked up from the lane.
There were worse allegations.
Jeff Simpson claimed that Dale tried to run him over with a bulldozer.
Dale claimed the Simpsons cut down a tree on his power lines, cut his phone lines, shot fireworks onto his property, injured his pet cats and damaged his property with their digging.
