DUers - "The Galloway Offensive" - PLEASE call a Democrat about it!
Edited on Wed May-18-05 08:41 AM by calimary
GUYS: NOW is the time. CALL A DEM THIS MORNING! You've GOT to know that MP George Galloway’s fiery statement before the Normie Coleman committee is the talk of the Hill. Sphincter muscles are uncomfortably tight all over the republi-CON world this morning when they all had to return to their offices and try to figure out what to do about this. NOW IS OUR TIME TO STRIKE. Now that Galloway has smashed the gates open like a battering ram, it's time for OUR guys to get some balls and close the deal.

Here's what I already called in to Dianne Feinstein and Harry Reid:

(in so many words, that is)

Galloway just taught school. Galloway has just shown you how it's done - how to fight these bullies. He spoke the truth and he smashed it straight into their faces. THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE, AND NOW IS WHEN IT SHOULD BE DONE.

Galloway just showed you how. He just gave you the tools.

Now, here's ANOTHER one (to the staffer who takes your call) - please could you take this down - it's VERY simple, it's TEN WORDS.

The Democrats are probably gonna get a lot of heat from critics who say - well they did it, too; they went along; they voted for the war; OKAY. HERE'S WHAT YOU DO - HERE'S WHAT YOU SAY - if you can please pass this on:

(say it slowly so if they actually are taking notes, they can get this - words capitalized for verbal emphasis)

"Because I TRUSTED my president. And he LIED to me."

URGE WHOMEVER YOU SPEAK WITH - to share this. Spread it around. It's vaccine against those who'd say "oh, they're all alike. They all do it. They all caved. They enabled this. They voted for it... blah blah blah (they're doing it now in the House with the tom delay business - oh they all did it, they're all the same, blah-blah-blah). NIP THAT CRAP IN THE BUD.

And do it NOW. Galloway gave us the opening. We need to JUMP on it.
Strike while the iron is hot.

If you don't know the contact info, you can find it here:

http://www.senate.gov/index.htm

OR - BETTER YET - ANOTHER TOLL FREE NUMBER TO THE CAPITOL HILL SWITCHBOARD: 1 (877) 762-8762. (Funny enough, those numbers on the touchtone pad spell out SOB-U-SOB!)

Call your Senator if he/she's a Dem. If not, call SOMEBODY ELSE'S Democratic Senator, or Harry Reid. Call SOMEBODY. Even just one. Just do it. They've now been shown how. They just need to apply the lesson. Please! We CAN take our country back! We were JUST given a MOST magnificent weapon!

2. Democrats would have put Galloway in jail back in the 50s
...because he is a socialist.

As for today, they 'graciously' allow Bernie Sanders (also a socialist) to associate with them and to support their policies. But only just.

Why would Democrats emulate people they would prefer to oulaw based on their economic philosophy? Especially when said Dems can count on profitable carreers as popular-but-unelected "politicians" who do corporate consulting and the lecture circuit?

I read your words and can say these people have no reason to heed you or anyone else who is rooting for Galloway. If they were "our guys" they would refer to Saudi Arabia as a fascist police state and call for immediate sanctions in every foreign-relations press release they make. Instead, they (Democrats!) aren't even willing to recognize Venezuela as a democracy... and making threats in that direction.

9. Well, in the 50's, we had Republicans like Eisenhower.
And, yes, Joe McCarthy - but he was brought down by a Galloway of that day. This is the latter-day version of the "have you no shame, sir" speech. Or as close as we get to it at the moment.

Besides, I think there's been a WAY too strong and steady template set up and maintained ever since the bushies took over and then exploited 9/11 to further their agenda. The Democrats have been suffering from inertia - in this case, the tendency to stay in place once you've established that you're not moving. Plus, there's the fear factor. And for far too long, all the reinforcements have gone to the bad guys. So it's understandable that they have pound-puppy syndrome and have become well-trained in reacting with whimpering and hunching fearfully in the nearest corner. Well, THAT DOESN'T MEAN THE REST OF US HAVE TO. And once they get a few tastes of what it doesn't have to be like, I think more of them will respond. But then again, I come from Barbara "Backbone" Boxerland.

Look, it's a start. A damned strong one. A golden opportunity that - if we miss it or fail to take advantage, we frankly deserve all the crap we'll get. I'm certainly not gonna roll over and beg them to kick me again - even if they do. And you shouldn't either! You deserve a LOT better than that. So do we all.

ONWARD THE RESISTANCE!!

Let's pull down the big "statue of bush" that's been erected in the town square, okay? I'm sick of looking at it.

4. Done I've called Boxer, Reid, Pelosi, Kennedy, Kerry, Obama, and Clinton
the Capital Hill Switchboard # is 202 224 2131.

I called and wished them luck on the filibuster, asked that they address the UK War memo, and Galloway's testimony.

I urge everyone here to do the same.

6. Can I get an AMEN! on that?
NOW is ABSOLUTELY the time to act.

As Faye Dunaway said to Robert Duvall in the movie "Network" - after their anchorman had just cried "Bullshit" on the air and all of America responded in swooning huzzahs: "It's being handed to us on a plate! Let's NOT blow it!"

10. I just called Dick Durbin, Christopher Dodd, and Joe Biden.
I followed this "script" if you will.

If you're not of their state, you can always open by saying "I care enough about this to call all the way from (fill in the blank here)." Be courteous to the staffer who answers. Thank them for giving you their time and for hearing you out. Be sincere and even a bit ardent about this. URGE them, INVITE them, to pass on that ten-word innoculation against the critics and "gotcha" grinches, if they're among the many who tried to go along and be supportive of "Our pResident" and voted for the war or the 87 billion or whatever. URGE THEM to tell their bosses, the senators in whose offices they work, to be strong, and remind them that Galloway has shown them exactly how to do it. And thank them yet again and tell them you recognize their courage and you appreciate their fighting on your behalf.

11. Hello ! ! ! Today ! Yesterday ! Last week ! Last November...
This should a daily thing! People should taking to the streets 60's style! What's happening now is so far beyond what was happening (politically) then and we may see changes in our Government that will alter our lives forever.

Call everyone, write everyone DAILY!!! Hell show up at their doorstep. Otherwise prepare for the next Inquisition, because that will be the logical progression after the people are powerless...

12. THANK YOU! You couldn't be more correct.
You just couldn't be more correct. Otherwise, prepare not only for the next Inquisition but the next blacklist and maybe the next round of trains - arriving to "relocate certain people." Then you'll have people lamenting that old lament about how when they came for the (fill in the blank here) I didn't say anything because it wasn't me, and when they came for the (fill in the blank here) I didn't say anything because it wasn't me, and when they finally came for me, there was nobody left to say anything.

I mean, are we going to be left mirroring Germany as the war was ending, when the citizenry finally was jolted awake and had to admit that they just couldn't believe this could ever happen to good Germans, and that their own countrymen could stoop so low? When they finally saw that the ovens were for real and that their leaders had lied and cheated and intimidated and threatened and stolen and tortured and killed? Ummm... Hello? Anything sound familiar?

22. I guess VENTING is enough for most...
I've been pushing (here recently and on other fronts) to enlist support for real action (in addition to consistently writing and calling gov reps, the media etc.) to stop the madness through peaceful protests in the form of walk-outs, sick-outs, boycotts, strikes etc. but the response (relative to the audience) has been limp...

See this post:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=1791229&mesg_id=1791229

This filibuster issue and the nuclear option (NO) is the last thread holding up our democracy. The press in gone (in terms of any real responsibility to the public), half the country is completely deluded or complacent and the party that most of us look to is either useless or insignificant. The NO will seal the deal and whereas a lot of people have an opinion, relatively few are willing to get off of their ass.

Personally I've been screaming about this potential since late 1999, early 2000 and low and behold here we are in mid 2005 and what is left of the America I remember is circling in the bowl, yet I still hear "oh, I've wanted to do "x" but things have been so crazy..." "Yup" I say "they have been and it's gettin' crazier by the day..." Enjoy whatever role you are given in the NWO…

WAKE UP PEOPLE!!! It's your freedom calling!

24. I like all those links. They're worth checking out.
Glad you added them back in here so more people can see them. I missed the "Remove george bush Day" thread, so I will take a look now.

Y'know something, JRob? Even venting is helpful. It gets it OUT of you instead of keeping it penned in, and maybe turning on your stomach lining. And once it's out, you not only ought to feel a little bit better, but others here can offer comment or insight that might be even more helpful. Nothin' wrong with it AT ALL. I've contributed some humdinger vents here, myself, and people are gracious enough to suffer through them.

:)

Sometimes that's an EXCELLENT strategy all by itself. If you offer your opponent a face-saving way out, rather than backing 'em into a corner, the more well-raised and elegant of them will take it. Of course, the Dems' opponents are ANYTHING BUT well-raised and elegant, judging by their bullying, ham-handed, lying, cheating, thieving, conniving, backstabbing, opportunistic, destructive behavior.

PS: just called Patrick Leahy's office.

26. Anything you do, even if it seems like a wee bit, is helpful.
Don't forget the allegory of the trim-tab. I've bored people here with it before (and you've got a low-post level so you may be too new to have seen it - therefore I get to bore YOU with it now! :D ).

It's something Buckminster Fuller once talked about - it's a very small movable flap on the edge of the rudder of a very large boat - like an ocean liner or tanker or yacht or big-ass floating something or other. The trim-tab is there to help turn the ship, because the durn thing is so big the rudder can't quite manage it without help, and it's way too heavy and cumbersome for somebody in the captain's position to manipulate. The trim-tab is the help - a jump-start, if you will. When the wheel is turned, it turns the trim-tab. The trim-tab's movement changes the shape of the edge of the rudder, which then turns. And then the turning of the rudder turns the ship.

My point in all that is - WE are that trim-tab. EVERY little bit helps turn the rudder. Enough of a change in the angle of the trim-tab and we effect change on the angle of the rudder, which then turns the big ship. Of state, or otherwise. NEVER dismiss even the smallest effort as useless. You never know what a difference your action can make. And it's FAR more preferable to doing nothing.
