The British fought the terrorists of the Mau Mau rebellion in Kenya
by turning some of the locals into British spies..therefor scaring the revolutionaries into not trusting their own dam people.

I wonder if that is the point with Newsday. WH must have known it was a weak story and then they slam the press. Then the press doesn't know who to believe. Their sources? Do they trust insurgents being released who offer to talk to them?

It weakens the whole system. And what makes it a serious story all of a sudden is the link to the Afghanistan people who were killed, which Myers now says wasn't the case.

So by attaching a 'vague' recollection of Koran being used as toilet paper..they scare the journalists into thinking they have caused death..get a retraction and journalists rubbing their heads..saying.. how do we prove this.

Guatanamo pay is in full war mode. They can lie their pants off and then deny whatever they want. It is part of the war machine, called propaganda.

I don't know how this story happened with Newsday..but I was reminded of those foolish and deadly British colonials who got at the opposition (legitimate opposition of course - except that like all revolutionaries they resorted to some form of violence) by attacking their source (the local tribesmen) and making the revolutionaries cautious about any contact with the people that sympathized and joined in the revolution.

Just a thought.

2. The spies were killed. The Bitish were terrified.
The Kenyans are free.

The Mau Mau are the stuff of legend
even though those who despise the idea of Africans ruling themselves
always refer to them as "terrorists."

3. The British tried the same thing in Israel and Aden
after WWII and were defeated both times. Psy-ops only works if people are naive enough to fall for it. As for the Newsweek story-- ugh, people have been drawing attention to Guantanamo abuses for months now. I doubt that this one single report was enough to spark a rebellion.

4. I meant that the reporters now trust their sources less, just like the mau
mau did for a time.

All the rovbots had to do was wait for the next anti-Muslim report on terror to make the news.. then blame the media for all the up-rising and violence that seem to be a normal part of everyday life in the ME. A pan waiting to happen.

5. With all due respect,
I do not think that your analogy is correct.
The Mau Mau KNEW what was going on.
They had ways.

On May 27, 2005
we will receive a verdict from the Muslim world.
Rove be damned.

6. That sounds terribly ominous? what is that date? An election? IF
you know of something bad about to happen - do tell (so I can tell Intel).

I think journalists know that the news is really just a 'product' at this juncture. I am sure they all need 5 and 10 corroborators for any story. And Rice is running around saying "oh, my gosh..you reporters have to be careful (aka either sell our kool-aid jungle juice or be dammed and it implies that what they are being is careful in their own wars...which they are not as evidenced by the fact Rumsfield whittled down the invading army until it could not handle the peace and mayhem has been the result)". And that is part of the trick. That the neocons never take ownership of their own dam mistakes..they just dole it out (blame) to liberals (even dead ones like FDR)who have consciences and will feel the wound for that type of attacks that happened to people in Afghanistan and will be frozen into in-action or fear of it happening again.

(CNSNews.com) - A media watchdog group blasted Newsweek Monday for refusing to issue a retraction of its report that U.S. interrogators at Guantanamo Bay flushed a Koran down a toilet despite the fact that the claim came from an anonymous source who could not substantiate it.
Media Research Center President Brent Bozell compared Newsweek's journalistic integrity to that of CBS News during the National Guard controversy.
"Newsweek is guilty of pushing a false story they knew was unconfirmed but wanted to believe was true, and this time the result was tragic," said Bozell, who is also founder of the Cybercast News Service.
"The Newsweek story is the same CBS/National Guard 'gotcha' journalism story all over again, only this time with riots and deaths as the deeply regrettable consequences," added Bozell.

Over the weekend, CAIR held a conference in the Washington area on the causes and remedies of "Islamophobia and anti-Americanism."
CAIR described the conference as a success, with more than 300 people attending.
Speakers included former Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim; Amnesty International USA Board Chair Chip Pitts; Gerald Michael Feierstein, director of the U.S. State Department's Office of Regional Affairs, Bureau of Near East Affairs; and Cherif Bassiouni, a law professor at DePaul University.
"It was gratifying to see such genuine interest by participants from across the U.S. in a conference aimed at tackling the complex issues of Islamophobia and anti-Americanism," said Fouad Khatib, CAIR board member.

8. Yes - I know. The news is like a marketplace where real journalists
are at a terrible advantage.

But what about that date. Is there something going on there (I did not read your links). Is it the day Bolton will be voted on?

I just don't know your reference to that date.
