Bush tapped the encumbent Bob Portman to be US Trade Representive.
The main issues are health care, education, the economy. Below is some information she presented to her local Dem Party and to Emily's List folks. --------------------------------------------------------------- "As a doctor, I know that health care needs to be excellent and affordable. As your congresswoman, I will:
1. Ensure Medicare coverage for prescription drugs for seniors; 2. Reduce the cost of health coverage for small businesses; and 3. Guarantee that Social Security continues to provide the benefits promised us.
We want, need, and deserve a strong economy, safe world, clean environment, and secure future. These begin with better health for our families.”
Some of my ideas about what I'd (want to) do in Congress: - Listen to SW Ohioans, represent them fairly, honestly, transparently.
- Bring together people with different priorities, values, and develop consensus in policy and law.
- Make every pregnancy a planned one: diminish the need for therapeutic abortion to near zero.
- Improve health care to the poor, rural and urban, via community health workers
- Work for fairer distribution of taxes so that communities that need more resources per child can get them. Counter-act the general trend that the rich-get-richer and the poor-get-poorer because our system institutionalizes inequality.
- Increase voter registration, voter turnout, and voter responsibility.
- Encourage community activism and “giving back” to the community, especially through volunteering.
- Wake politicians – and voters up. Throw off the Republican hegemony.
- Create, maintain, encourage a “Peace College,” with as much funding as the “War College.”
- Increase jobs programs to reduce unemployment, drug use, and crime.
- Attract high-tech and bio-tech firms to SW Ohio, including multi-nationals, attracted by our high quality of life and low cost of living.
- Offer tax incentives to companies that reduce air, water, and soil pollution.
- Make SW Ohio a tourist attraction for the region (Mid-Atlantic, South East, South, Mid-west, and Great Lakes). Promote development consonant with the rural and simple lifestyle of many of us.
