Seems Like John Conyers Has Been On A Mission Lately
How old is he? (As in 2008 Prez Candidate) He has been working so hard for this country. You know, we have the top 10 conservative idiots, how about the top 10 progressive champions, or somehitng like that. Let me be the first to nominate John Conyers!

5. That's looking more and more like my ticket for 2008.
Conyers/Boxer or Boxer/Conyers. Heck, let 'em trade off each day and give 'em off on Sundays for bowling!

NGU.

3. Top Ten Progressive Champions is a great idea. Even more helpful
if we also got information to make a donation to their Campaign. That way we could really support them.

6. I think it would lead to too much controversy
Look at the fights that already break about between the supporters and opponents of the various high-profile Democrats on these boards.

I'd like to see more focus on the issues these people are championing, and less on the champions themselves.

Its leads to less inter-progressive conflict and is probably more productive in terms of changing the minds of the participants, and also is more interesting for those like me who don't live in the US.

4. I second the nomination.
Although I seriously doubt the Presidency is on his mind. Conyers is that rare breed of man who lets his principles dictate what he says and does - he acts like he's on a mission because he is, and his mission is Democracy. I think this man loves our country, and more importantly, its citizens.

7. Unfortunately, that breed is not rare.

George W Bush is a perfect example, as are many, many other foaming rightwingers. If anything, America is suffering from a surfeit of men who let their principles dictate what they say and do.

To be good person, being principled is necessary, but it's nowhere near sufficient - how good your principles are matters far more than how how closely you follow them.

None of which is to say that Conyers isn't strongly principled, or that his principles aren't good.
