Lieberman, Landrieu, and Nelson-turncoats on Bolton?
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/05/12/AR2005051201487.html

//The Republicans control the Senate 55 to 44, with one independent, so six Republicans would need to break ranks to defeat the nomination if all Democrats were firmly opposed. But Republicans identified Democratic Sens. Joseph I. Lieberman (Conn.), Mary Landrieu (La.) and Ben Nelson (Neb.) as potential pickups for Bolton. All three were among the tiny group of Democrats who supported Bolton when his appointment as undersecretary was approved 57 to 43 in 2001.

Lieberman and Landrieu have said they are undecided, while Nelson is leaning in favor, a spokesman said.

Any Senator who votes for him is one sick puppy. Any Democrat who does it is pure trash! Enough!

15. Yes, I would say that describes it
well, I think that the press being locked in the WH press room while
everyone was evacuated for the RED ALERT may have finally broken
through to the media that they have a JOB to DO about informing the
American people of the TRUTH.

11. Nelson's done after 2006
His GOP replacement will probably be worse, but he's toast anyway.
That Poppy Bush appointed judge screwed Nebraska too bad on the nuke waste compact. Nelson cost the state too much money when he broke the compact. Unfortunately we'll get a Stein-troll in 2006.

Why have it 55-44-1 when it could be 56-43-1?

9. Sorry about that. That's what we have now if he votes for this
"serial abuser." Why does everything for this guy, Nelson, need to be such a psychodrama? And what about representing their constituents? I don't think there are many people in Nebraska (or anywhere else, for that matter) who would countenance the behavior towards employees and a spouse that we KNOW Bolton displays.

Imagine this: "Well, I'm leaning for Dr. Mengele as Secretary of HHS."

Bolton played a key role in stealing 2000, is getting us into mucho trouble with N.Korea, and hates our (Democrats) guts.

I'm all for Democrats in the Senate of any stripe but enough is enough.

Edited on Sat May-14-05 08:41 AM by Pepperbelly
Zell did in his last few years. And I didn't see Ben speak at the gop convention about how fucked up the Democrats are. When Ben starts that shit, I will despise him the same way I despise Zell. Until then, Ben understands Nebraska politics a whole lot more than I do. I wouldn't have a clue what it takes to win there.

And yep, Bolton is a turd. A real piece of shit, one that I would love to run into when he doesn't have his federal boys to back up his big, hateful mouth. Fuck him and fuck Bush for nominating the rat bastard son of a bitch.

But I am not going to second guess Democrats who have to face re-election in a very red state. I'm GLAD to have him.

4. Something needs to be done
Something needs to be done about these congressmen that vote with the republicans. Is it possible to do a recall vote on a congressman? Is it possible to unseat them somehow?

We have no control over the republicans, but these democrats should have to answer to the people.

that are so bad, it's hard to find a substitute. Whom could they replace Bolton with? Timothy McVeigh and David Koresh are dead.
Ted Nugent won't leave the woods.

13. Larry Flynt, John Bolton, and Forced Sex - interesting read!
The controversial Hustler Magazine publisher Larry Flynt has waded into the conflict surrounding the nomination of Bush hawk John Bolton to a UN post by revealing Bolton's divorce records and unanswered questions about his sexual past, RAW STORY has learned.

18. Or maybe they're so pissed off they'll vote against him
Snowe and Collins are both shocked at the losses of Maine's bases. I don't think they're in any mood to cooperate with this administration, either.

These base closures could actually kill the Bolton nomination.

19. Lieberman's DLC, and Landrieu voted to open up ANWR!
I can't stand the DLC in general, but Landrieu is looking like the worst traitor here. Not only is she possibly on the verge of voting to confirm a thug like Bolton, an act that would cause even more damage for US standing in the world; she also voted to upon up the ANWR. She has T-R-A-I-T-O-R stamped all over her forehead.

staying in office in a very red state.

I don't think she deserves this kind of shit from someone who has no political accountability with anyone, much less a whole state's worth of voters.

20. What are they...
scared of AIPAC or something?

Lieberman, of course, is a Neocon so it wouldn't surprise me at all if he voted for Bolton. Landrieu could probably be influenced to oppose him, I would think. Nelson I have no earthly idea what is up with him. You can't imagine that anybody (other than Joe) would truthfully back the guy, so there must be pressure coming from somewhere.

21. Bolton is part of the process
Perhaps we should just wait for the GOP to destroy the institutions that allowed this country to drag it's ass out of the dark ages of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

We aren't far from the days of Robber barons and Tammany Hall politics.

The rest of the world's Democracy are gradually relieving themselves of American influence over their politics or economy. The Euro will become the standard for international trade - replacing the dollar.

We keep these shortsighted greedy bullies in office and we will be a third rate country within a decade or so.

27. Interestingly,
Edited on Sat May-14-05 09:17 AM by liberalmike27
Wealth disparities have actually reached very similar levels to the time just before the Great Depression. Many cite this as one of, if not the greatest factor in causing the depression. Hey, if one or two guys have all the spending money, and the rest of us don't have squat, it doesn't take a genius to figure out our economy is going to end up screwed. I use the black and white example, as the ends of the whole lexicon of money distribution.

I'm an open advocate of forms of distribution, especially the minimum or better yet, a living wage. Programs like Social Security, or Welfare are good too, better yet, a workfare full-employment program is what we really need. It should pay less than the prevailing living wage, so there would still be incentive to get a better job, and child care should be part of the package, so people wouldn't have to leave their kids at home. The kids should learn some rudimentary civics lessons while they are being kept to make up for a possible lack of being taught at home by the parents.

29. This Is The Train Wreck Waiting To Happen!
If this country continues on the same course as now, I don't think it will be possible for even the "red-staters" to ignore the corruption.

When they can't put food on the table, are they going to turn to WELFARE?? Presently I know of THREE families who have hit me up for a substantial sum of money just so they can "LIVE". As in putting food on the table. One recently had their electricity cut off because I can't afford to dole out any more money. The agencies they were referred to essentially told them they didn't have ANY money to be of any help. While they did get food stamps, there was NOTHING else available to them. One woman is unable to work because of a heart condition and she is already collection SS, so she can't apply for disability. I'm to the point I'm afraid to answer my phone when they call because it really makes me feel bad.

And when I say "my money" I'm talking thousands of dollars. I can no longer be of help and where once the money was supposed to be a loan, I doubt I'll never see it again. I'm not a person who has any wealth, but couldn't sit back and watch these people suffer. We took money out of our IRA to help them. When I was called about the electricity being cut off I simply had to tell them I was unable to help them anymore. I no longer have answers for them.

And we are only ONE family, I can't imagine what's going on across the nation. Is an epidemic on the way?????

26. sometimes I really wonder why we bother
Work our asses off to get dems elected, only for the right of the party to cave to Bush over the most appalling, innappropriate appointment imaginable. I really hope these senators will decide to start giving a shit about this country before the vote (although I hold out no hope whatsoever for Ben Zellson).
