How Dean got Gored, or How I Stopped Worrying and Learned to Love
The Screech

Upon viewing this version of the infamous speech ( http://www.idiomstudio.com/ ), it's clear to me what happened;

Dean was virtually being drowned out by his supporters during the entire thing, he needed to shout. When the networks covered the scene, they took the entire audio straight from the sound board, cutting out virtually all of the crowd noise, except what filtered through his mic, making him sound artificially loud. If you've ever listened to soundboard recordings of live concerts, you'd know what I mean.

In this cut, recorded by someone in the very front of the crowd, even the "yiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!!!!!!!" is barely audible ofver the crowd going nuts.

Media Hatchet Piece 101..

9. I just posted your exact thoughts on another thread!
Great minds think alike. My husband is a musician and a sound king.. from being around him I realized it had to be like taking a board tape. How could they get such a clean sound without multi-track recording? How utterly cruel and deceitful they are. I hope the two real versions of his speech make the rounds online. I, too, noticed that the yeargh was inaudible.

Total hatchet job. Good post.

13. Oh come on now!
Dean did what he did. Period. No one made him do it, there was no manipulation involved.

Well, almost none...
The manipulation was not in the events that transpired or how they were presented. The manipulation was of your own mind.

Any other candidate could have gotten away with it with out even a raised eyebrow. The "Goring" of Dean started months and months ago. It's been a long, methodical campaign against him. The public has been conditioned over time to see Dean as "the angry candidate". Everything he does is viewed through this prism. There is little he can do, now that he has been tarred with the stygma.

What you do not realize, is that all of our candidates are ticking time-bombs. All of them have already been Gored, you just don't know it yet. But think really hard.. there is some cartoonish stereotype, however subtle right now, about each and every candidate. The stereotypes become percieved as reality through repetition. The right-wing media will continue to repeat the same mantra about each candidate, until it takes over the public's perception about them. That is how Al Gore was Gored, and the same with Howard Dean. It didn't happen overnight, and it wasn't because of any one single incident.

14. That's The First Thing I Noticed - Muted All Crowd
noises, making Dean sound alone and loud. I hate the corporate media. They have gone out of their way to destroy Dean's candiacy.

15. ummm, Dean was holding the mic
you need a mic on the crowd in order to pic up the sound. The mic Dean had was a cardiod dynamic mic. It has a very narrow polar pattern. He is the only thing that mic is going to pick up.

17. The flag factor
Bush is seldom shown without a looming backdrop of flag, sometimes so huge all you see is a stripe or two.

I noticed that the cameras on Dean were quick to clear away from their field of vision the few small flags being enthusiastically waved by his supporters, though there were probably hundreds not shown.
