U.S.-Iraq Battle Touches on Syria Border
http://news.yahoo.com/fc/world/iraq

Anyone think that there'll be an "oops" and suddenly, American troops will be in Syria and worse? Oops! Sorry! We apologize for the inconvenience! It wasn't planned at all!

Like the river trip in Apocalypse Now; didn't the US state that no bombing had happened in Cambodia, and don't we see a downed bomber in the river? Fiction yes, but.. Oops!

4. Yep. Laosy way to fight a war, isn't it?
We've wanted to take down Syria since this started. History will show that we were moving into positions to do just that when Baghdad exploded in April of '03.

Scambodia.

2. Wasn't planned? The official name is Operation Matador
Amy Goodman & Seymour Hersch talked about it this morning. The news reports that there are 1000 Marines and (I think) 100 soldiers waging war along the Syrian border (fighting insurgents is what they're calling it) and totally stunned at the fierce resistance (no heaping bouquets of flowers I take it).

Since the operation began 5 days ago, 5 Marines are reported dead and I don't know how many injured. Hersch said it's worse than what they're admitting.

I hope we can learn more at DU.

The horror... the horror... You are so right.

Good morning Vietnam! 5 Marines killed in a battle that never happened.

3. I read this morning that they had pulled back, given up
It'll be one useless unwinnable skirmish after another.

It is Viet Nam, on steroids.

5. I thought that's what I heard
but was distracted at the time so unsure. When I quickly googled I saw nothing about them pulling back. Thanks for reminding me... When I get home I'll see if I can find anything.

What a crying shame.
