Please, someone who knows what Dean's been up to,
please call Big Ed and clue him in?

That rant was NOT helpful, not at all. Is Dean deliberately flying below the radar (i.e. talking to local press only) or is the MSM following their SOP and ignoring him?

1. Dean is only speaking to local media outlets.

I've never heard this Ed guy's show. I think he used to be a Republican.

3. So did a lot of people. And Ronald Reagan used to be
a liberal Democrat.

Your point?

6. My point is that I don't know anything about Ed's viewpoint
or political philosphy. What he said may very well make sense from his point of view and to his target audience.

7. WE are his target audience, and he's a good blue collar
Democrat from North Dakota (or maybe it's South Dakota).

Which is why I'm so upset that he's so ill-informed. I think the DNC would be well served to make sure he gets all their press releases.

12. Perhaps we can put him on a DNC mailing list
Edited on Thu May-12-05 05:20 PM by CottonBear
or maybe we can e-mail and fax the press releases to him. Dean is so under the Corporate Media radar that the general public, even including radio hosts, has no idea what he's doing and saying.

17. I think that's an excellent idea. Big Ed's heart is in the right place,
but often he's not as informed as he should be. Please, everybody, fax/call/email him daily with the information he needs to counter those Fascist bastards.

Thanks for your help, all of you.

BTW, I don't know the man from Adam, and am in no way connected with him or with his program. I'm just a regular listener who's sometimes frustrated with his lack of knowledge on a given issue.

2. I heard Big Ed!
I am really proud of him for speaking out! He said Howard Dean needs to pull his head out of his ass! Where is HE!!!! I loved the caller who called in and said to withhold money from the Dems! They are out there speaking for us!!! Yeah!

the time to find out what Chairman Dean has been up to before you go off half cocked?

16. I got caught up in the moment!
Where are the Dems? Who is fighting for us? Who is speaking out for us? No One!!! We look like total Wimps!!! It's not just Howard Dean! Why can't more of them speak out like Barbara Boxer, John Conyers, etc.? I can only hope they have some sort of secret agenda, that soon will blow this current administration out of the water!

They're just not getting coverage from the MSM, not even from C-Span.

We're David, up against a true Goliath. Don't blame David if he's a bit short of supplies.

24. When the Dem base stops contributing, corporations take over permanently*
Thats the problem. The only alternative I could see would be ultimately creating a third party.

With that said, there have been questions regarding Ed's overall political position here at DU. It could be agenda driven or that he's biased for some reason, I don't know. This is not intended for flame fest but for simple verification. There was a thread about him recently and his blurry political leanings so who knows?

It's probably noteworthy just to observe future rants, and any bias or pattern that might or might not be there. I have become more cynical these past five years and it's possible for that to be part of the problem.

With that said, I usually like alot of what Ed says. Although I would not consider him at all to be a progressive, he's conservative, but he's seems for the most part relatively common sense, however impulsive he may be. I didn't hear his show today regarding Governor Dean.

With regards to jumping Dean's case, I don't know what the specifics were, but it sounds as though it's Ed that needs to pull the cabeza out.

Again I didnt hear it, but what does Ed want specifically from Governor Dean? Would he have asked the same of Terry McCauliffe?

Putting things in perspective, Schultz is a talk show host on a radio show.

His job is to talk.

Governor Dean's job is to overhaul the Democratic party.

Which one's more difficult?

In other words Big "Ed" isnt rebuilding and renewing a pretty overwhelmed and seemingly undervalued party base along with a pretty overwhelmed and underrepresented leadership (especially in the media*).

On top of that, Ed Schultz certainly hasnt committed to taking on a project like the Governor has, not to mention Schultz hasnt ignited, rejuvenated and inspired Americans like Dean has done.

Schultz is guilty of a little guilded tower syndrome on this one. It's easy for any of us to talk bold behind a microphone in a studio.

26. Waal, those of us stuck out here in the western wastes
aren't always able to keep up with the latest adventures of the party stalwarts, so instead of preaching and passing judgment, allow me to suggest that we all might be better served if you would assist Big Ed by letting him know what the good doctor--and any other Democrats whose activities you might be familiar with--are doing on our behalf.

Que no? :hi:

28. You keep up like most of us do LOL. The good ole internet.
As far as "preaching and passing judgement", I believe such criticism be directed at the one who actually initiated the judgement, Mr. Schultz, or as you call him, "Big Ed"?

After all that was the original premise of your post, was it not?

8. Opening offices in 4 states.

I gather you're not a DNC member. For the first time in the party history, the party has opened up full time permanent offices in four states. Republicans have had full time offices in all fifty states for some time now.

I expect Dems will have offices in all fifty states by '08. But getting the first four pilot offices up and running would have to be a major task. I expect Dean is quite busy with this right now. Dean IS the party's head administrator now.

Anyway, it's good to hear about the 4 regional offices. What states are they in?

How intriguing!

BTW, you can still receive information and get active in the DNC without donating.

We are not like Republicans that way. ;)

11. Working his ass off and raising money
I saw him in Mississippi a couple of months back. Gave a great speech, had an overflow crowd, raised about $100,000 that one night and went on to the next one.

It was GREAT to hear him and he energized the Dem workers.

21. Bingo
He's in the heartland doing the drudge work, hands on, small venues, pumping up the base, raising money, saying things straight without bullshit, NOT giving up on the middle of the country.

He's not riding around in limousines, shmoozing with fatcat corporate dems who are/have sold the soul of the party to the PNACing fucktoids.

I love Howard Dean.

23. And how! He was here in California for the state convention in April.
Edited on Thu May-12-05 06:31 PM by calimary
He spoke at the big banquet the night before it all ended. But for those of us who weren't able to get in, he ducked into a meeting room where we were waiting for a screening of "Outfoxed" to start, and spoke to US, too. And YES, he ABSOLUTELY energized the Dems. It was like blessed buckets of cool water to a traveler stranded in the desert. We ate it up with a spoon. And we NEEDED it. It meant a HUGE amount to everyone.

He's out there working the grassroots. And obviously planting a few seeds.

20. I just saw him on Tavis Smiley
He is the single reason I am still a Dem.
I love that guy.

He said he's not running in 06, because he's completely devoted to taking the Dem party back. They now have people on the ground in all 50 states, with 4 new offices in 4 states we usually don't do too well in.

The single thing he said that gave him my undying devotion?

"The Democratic Party has to stop treating black and latino voters like they are their base, and START treating them like swing voters."

Being an African American myself, I actually breathed a sigh of relief because at least one person in power in the Democratic Party....."gets" it.

I LOVE that he will not speak with MSM....it implies that he KNOWS they are all POS.

Watch, the same thing will start happening with them that goes on with O'Reilly....reporters will start following him around begging him for an interview.

And he''ll just laugh and shake his head no.

Just like he does with O'Reilly

I'm a white chick from the south (a native Sotherner). Dean speaks for ALL of us, no matter who you are or where you are from. He's pissed the Corporate News Media off. He's flying under the radar and going in for the air strike.
