Is the term Entitlement Attitude the new buzzword
for people who don't believe in the Ownership Society? I was just sent this email by an aquaintance.

Anyone, and I mean anyone, who does not have the "entitlement" attitude that you've apparently developedcan succeed in America, have a good paying job, care for her family, plan for retirement. But it takes a little effort or should I say exercise of freedom, to make it happen. Someone without the sufficient work ethic and attitude will need the entitlements you speak of.

We were discussing taxes and SS and goverment programs.

1. Your acquaintance is woefully uninformed
There are people in the U.S. working two and three jobs who can't make ends meet, can't earn a good living, and can't provide for their families. Some of them may even live in your acquaintance's neighborhood.

But enough about that. Perhaps your acquaintance could enlighten us all as to what Dick Cheney (for just one example) did last year that he "earned" $190,000 from the Halliburton corporation, a company teetering on the edge of bankruptcy at the end of 2002 thanks in no small part to Mr. Cheney's stupid acquisition of Dresser Industries and assuming its asbestos liability. Seems to me he has just one full-time job, but nearly doubled his salary from that job for doing nothing.

2. My acquaintance is hard core GOP
who obviously drank the Kool aide!

And our argument was basically about United Airlines/SS and such.

I just wondered if entitlement attitude is the new slang. (you know like welfare mother was?)

4. Who is to say?
But you can bet that if the commissars of the GOP have decreed that "entitlement attitude" is the new buzzword, you will surely see it used prominently by all loyal party members until it becomes part of the political vocabulary.

So your friend feels that the United workers and retirees have an "entitlement attitude" because they signed a contract with the company for certain wages and benefits including their pensions, and they expect the company to deliver on its promises? How very odd that a GOPer would so cavalierly dismiss the rights of parties to enforce contracts.

6. Like the GOP's Contract on America?
He believes that it is better to lose benifits and still have a job than to keep a promise I guess. (Wonder what the CEO lost?)

7. I just heard it on an investment firm commercial...
Something along the lines of " For those who believe success is not an entitlement. " Yea, it's the new buzzword.

8. Perhaps your acquaintance also ought to be reminded is that
the single biggest entitlement program in this entire country is the entitlement the republi-CONS feel they have to OUR White House. republi-CONS in general and the bush klan in particular.

9. Yep apparently so... funny thing is THEY tare actually the ones with
the entitlement attitude. They believe they deserve it ALL. Believe me I have dealt with these people. All of us little guys are supposed to move mountains for THEM. While they spend their days making us miserable! "Entitlement" means something different to both sides. I am unable to grasp what the hell kind of entitlement it is to have security of health and family in your own damn country. Our damn government needs to get the hell out of the business of making war and start making peace with it's own damn citizens!

10. Yes, Entitlement buzz words are being thrown about
in all media. Entitlement is a "communist" word these days.

What a bunch of ill informed, blind, greedy, insensitive, backward-looking buffoons these anti-entitlement lizards are.

Off with their heads!
