Conversation with Senator Byrd's Office:
Just had a wonderful conversation with the
operator for Senator Byrd's call line.
She said she had missed his talk because of all the
nasty calls and was sure happy to hear from us.

I told her about DU and how we were howling at the fact
that Bryd had sent a demon back to hell with scripture.
She cracked up on that one!
I also told her the King James reference did not go unheard
by Christians who are dancing in joy that he used it and his
personal testimony of justification and baptism as prescribed
by the word of God to send a cockroach scurrying back to
hell.
She laughed and said he would appreciate knowing that
it was not lost on Christians that the Evangelical cultists
use the NIV or false doctrine.

I asked her where we could send the Senator flowers:
Senator Byrd
311 Senate Hart Building
Washington DC
20510

His anniversary is coming at the end of the month and
I hope you will all send he and the Mrs. a card!

Personally, I have to tell you that as a Christian, I feel
with all of my heart that i just witnessed the power
of God's word as promised in the scripture to
defeat the spirit of the AC.
Not ot offend anyone, just want to share what
I believe as a believer.
I told her I would print our listening thread out and
send it- off to do that now.

3. I think it is important for Byrd to know
that what he did was not missed by other Christians.
I think it was appreciated by ALL who want to
take our country back, but also on a deeper level
by Christians who are depairing at the roar of
the evangelicals.

24. It is ABSOLUTELY essential that he know he has support out here.
From true, genuine, actually-following-the-actual-teachings-of-The-Prince-of-Peace Christians and those who follow other faiths.

He's wonderful. He needs to be reminded of that. He needs to be told that not everybody's so busy genuflecting before the false gods of the republi-CON party. He needs to know that he did not speak out in vain. He needs an attaboy. LOTS of attaboys. Good on you that you did that! I think I will call his office tomorrow morning and say thanks, also. It's after close-of-business now. He needs to know he did good, and that he must keep it up.

I will tell him not all of us are "Carnivores for Christ."

2. OK
Evangelical cultists
use the NIV or false doctrine.

So KJV is the only acceptable version and others are false? What does the Catholic Bible become then? Isn't the meaning more important than waht was said (like Buddhist sutra)?

4. I know a lot of southern Baptists who feel that way about the KJV. I am
giving the Senator et al the benefit of the doubt that this was a tongue in cheek statement meant to rile up the "my Bible is the only right Bible/my way is the only right way" crowd.

5. I respect and love MANY Catholic writers
Thomas a Kempis in particular- HOWEVER being denied
communion in a Catholic church did not do much for me as
a Christian.
I can tell you that a buddist would not be denied communion in
a non denominational church.
I have studied SEVERAL spiritual paths and perfer some
Sufi translations over others.
I will not go near anything studied by evangelicals,
including the NIV.

6. I'm a devoted UU, but Byrd had me singin' Hallelujah!
Senator Byrd is one of the few in the Senate with balls enough to stand up and call a thug a Thug, and make them choke on their own words! I absolutely adore this man!

7. I mentioned DU in both of my calls as well
I told the folks at both offices about DU and told them to come over and read the posts about Byrd and his speech today.

They seemed to be pleased that I called.

I was proud of this Dem leader today. Very, very proud.

8. Maybe it's time for another collection and
flower appreciation campaign...like with Boxer....I do think Byrd deserves it and we should work on it...I'd certainly chip in...even if we collected $1.00 from all that would be enough to fill his office, I hope we can put something together for this....The state flower of West Virg. is the Mountain Laural (rhododendron)I don't think that's in season yet though, so maybe Roses again?

Please,please, please?

16. Thanks BHN
I actually have read both versions I just never knew the controversy surrounding NIV (pardon my ignorance, its only been in the past few years that I've refound my faith so I've still got a lot to learn).

18. The link will tell you a great deal about the NIV
Which was compiled, unlike the KJV, in SECRECY.
sound familiar?
Take a look at the corporate profits and connections
to the NIV and you will throw it away...

20. Went to the site...apparently they have heard directly from God.....
"The Greek Textus Receptus, from which the Authorized King James Version was translated, is the true Word of God."

"The New Greek Text, from which modern versions (Revised Version, New International Version, New American Standard Version, and New King James Version) are derived, is a corrupted Greek text."

http://www.jesus-is-lord.com/another.htm

The "true word of God"? "...Inspired and inerrant"? "INERRANT"??? No offense, but Fundie is fundie and this is what makes for deadly conflict, IMHO.

21. Look GOF..all I can tell you is this-
The metaphor would be:
You are in the desert.
There are several bottles of water-
Are you going to drink form the muddy ones or
the pure one?
Follow the corporate ties to find the clean water.
Sorry this bothers you so-

22. I'm going to drink real water, not some fictional representation of water.
I'm in a desert. Am I going to crawl toward the lovely mirage with it's seemingly many bottles of water, or the real lemonade stand? I hope I choose the real refreshment stand, in the real world. Peace be with you.

Edited on Thu May-12-05 03:10 PM by Tinoire
Got all chocked up about thanking him but asked that they let him know that there were Christians out there cheering him on and Progressives out there loving him.

Byrd absolutely rocks!

Hamanize! I love it!

Yeah, we can start speaking in code too ;)

Haman was the prime minister of Persia during the reign of King Xerxes. He is called an "Agagite," which suggests he was descended from the royal family of the Amalekites, as Agag was one of the titles of the Amalekite kings.

He was an arrogant man with an overinflated sense of his own importance. He became furious when Mordecai, a cousin of Esther, who was married to King Xerxes, refused to bow down to him.

When Haman saw that Mordecai would not kneel down or pay him honor, he was enraged. Yet having learned who Mordecai's people were, he scorned the idea of killing only Mordecai. Instead Haman looked for a way to destroy all Mordecai's people, the Jews, throughout the whole kingdom of Xerxes. (Esther 3:5-6)
Haman had enough influence over the king to persude him to issue a royal edict to destroy, kill and annihilate all the Jews and to plunder their goods.

When Mordecai found out about this plot, he sent word to his cousin to tell her to use her relationship with the King to stop the massacre. The king arranged for a party to be throne to honor Haman, who was delirous with joy. But he said it was nothing compared compared to the pleasure he would get to see Mordecai dead.

His wife Zeresh and all his friends said to him, "Have a gallows built, seventy-five feet high, and ask the king in the morning to have Mordecai hanged on it. Then go with the king to the dinner and be happy." This suggestion delighted Haman, and he had the gallows built. (Esther 5:14)
Haman, however, was to end up on the gallows himself, as Esther made the King understand that Haman's plot was against her own people.

No you haven't and it sure feels good to hear it! And it sure is good to see you!

YSIC

I am still upset about not being able to find your thread on the old server, the one about Bush landing on that aircraft carrier quoting Isaiah and basically trumpetting the arrival of the A/C.

"Be Not Afraid" I think was the title and Will Pitt wrote an interesting article from it.

:loveya: too!

too contraversial and could potentially paint DU
as a bunch of nuts...
Quoting I 61 indeed!
Declaring himself the Christ as in Luke 4
What a pompous ass.
