"Do you want to confirm judges or do you want to pick a fight?"
Reid Offers Filibuster Deal; Frist Says No

By JESSE J. HOLLAND
The Associated Press
Thursday, May 12, 2005; 1:39 PM

WASHINGTON -- Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid on Thursday offered to help confirm some of President Bush's blocked judicial nominees from Michigan in an attempt to stave off a showdown over filibustering the White House's court appointments.

But Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist _ who said he expects a filibuster showdown to come as early as next week _ said all of Bush's judicial nominees deserve confirmation votes, not just selected ones. "I think anything less than that at this point ... the American people will recognize as a sham," Frist said

Reid, in his offer, promised that Democrats would not filibuster the nominations of Michigan nominees Richard Griffin, David McKeague and Susan Neilson to the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals if Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., calls for a vote on them instead of pushing his plan to ban judicial filibusters.

"Do you want to confirm judges or do you want to pick a fight?" Reid challenged Republicans.

5. The wheels are starting to come off of this Administration
The Democratic leadership in Congress is starting to smell blood in the water. Wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't uttered again.

8. I agree
The first little puff of smoke is there to be seen. As long as the Dems keep giving it oxygen, this fire will soon engulf this administration and burn it to the ground.

3. "the American people will recognize as a sham"
Now the Senatorial process is a sham? I'll tell you what a sham would be. If 225 out of 225 judges got confirmed and not one got turned down, that would be a sham. Rubber stamping the president's insane agenda would be a sham. You wouldn't know a sham if it crawled into your brain and laid eggs you cat-killing hypocrite!

4. You should be watching Byrd pummel Frist, on CSPAN now
Byrd is making Frist look like a total simpering idiot. He's reading from his copy of the Constitution, essentially quizzing Frist on it, to which Frist has only been able to stumble into yet another rendition of "These are good people who deserve an up or down vote!" He has nothing else. Byrd is trouncing him.

7. Sorry for the shallow movie reference...but...
this reminds me of braveheart where Wallace meets the Brits and just snubs them knowing the minority of Scots will win.

10. Yeah except the Dems are spineless at the moment ...

9. I would personally like to thank the voters of the State of Nevada
for sending Harry Reid to the United States Senate.

Unlike many of the GOP Senators, his reputation is golden in this town.
