Will The Bolton Carnvial REALLY Keep Going?
So it looks like Bolton goes to the Senate without confirmation, but definitely with one and possibly three Republicans voting no when it gets there. Not to mention the continued drip-drip-drip of stories like the Larry Flynt tale and whatever gets leaked out of the State department, for at least another week.

Or maybe more -- if you check DAILY KOS, you'll see that Frist's trigger on the nuclear option is going to be a long draw. Open-ended debate, where all other bid-ness of the Senate will be suspended until the judges/filibuster debate gets resolved.

Now, if this was any other relatively sane administration, they'd ask Bolton to withdraw his nomination and start from scratch -- but as we all know, the Bushistas are not sane. Everything is you're-with-us-or-you're-with-the-enemy b.s., so until someone acts otherwise we're still going to see lots more bad Bolton P.R.. I think even the American media will be able to see that blood.

So the bottom line: how is this nomination battle being stretched out longer a BAD thing?

2. John Kerry on the Bolton Nomination
Here's the latest statement from John Kerry on today's Senate Foreign Relations Committee meeting on the appointment of John R. Bolton to serve as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations:

"After learning more about John Bolton's record over the past two months, it's even more clear that he lacks the leadership, diplomatic skills and credibility to advance America's interests at the United Nations.

"We've suffered the tragic consequences of intelligence failures, and one of the casualties has been the credibility needed to bring allies to our side. Why would we ever choose as our next U.N. Ambassador a man who even senior Bush administration officials believe stretches intelligence to fit his ideological views? Mr. Bolton wasn't forthcoming or candid during his earlier confirmation hearing. Since then his evasive responses to questions and the administration's repeated refusal to turn over all the requested information make it clear they won't give Americans the full picture of his record. This is not a record that merits promotion to Ambassador to the United Nations."

3. Nothing to lose, everything to gain.
Or do you think that freepers are worried about a vacant UN ambassador chair?
