He's playing this very close to the vest.

19. Voinovich is to be commended for standing up to the Bush administration.
Edited on Thu May-12-05 10:08 AM by flpoljunkie
It is refreshing indeed.

Of course, Lugar has made it known that he will send the nomination to the floor in any case--tie vote or even a negative vote.

12. Voinovich is a can read the writing on the wall.
Right now, in Ohio, with the coin scandal being slashed everywhere, he knows that a seismic shift in public perception is on the doorstep. Opposing Bolton will increase his "independance quotient" back home.

This is not as risky a position as is the media would like you to believe. At the end of the day, the repukes will not toss him over the rail.

17. Faxing his office NOW with support
Let's give him some moral support to hold up against the arm-twisting that the repugs will undoubtedly apply to him between now and the vote this afternoon.

It could STILL go to the Senate (where there's at least a pretty good chance he's lose - better now than 20 minutes ago)

He wants to let his colleagues in the full Senate make up their own mind, and vote to send it out of committee without recommendation. Crap! Maybe the arm twisting worked after all ?

Good mood just evaporated...

33. I logged in when he was pretty much repeating points brought up
before, like that they did have signatures of former Sec. of States. who vouched for Bolton (Baker and Kissinger I believe he was referring to) but that Powell did not sign it and Powell was the guy who was working with him the most on a day to day basis.

Then he made a line and I know I'm gonna butcher it so its not his exact one but it was something like "Bolton is a poster child of what not to be as a diplomatic candidate"
