Ohio is a GOP cesspool (AmericaBlog)
http://www.americablog.org/

Okay, I admit a certain obsession with Ohio. And, of course, it relates to the election. I'm not over it.

The Toledo Blade has been all over the growing GOP rare coin scandal. The story in today's paper gives a great overview of the whole mess...and how all of the state's top GOP leaders are tied in to it.

For starters, top GOP fundraiser, Tom Noe, who was the Bush campaign fundraising guru in Ohio, had to quit a couple of plum appointments(oh yeah, Noe is facing both state and federal investigations):

A day after the state said it would pull $50 million in investments managed by Toledo area coin dealer Tom Noe, he resigned yesterday from both the Ohio Turnpike Commission and the Ohio Board of Regents.

Gov. Bob Taft said he did not request the resignations, but he did accept them.

1. I am a former Ohioan
and I will go to my grave having no idea why my state is such a mess and still votes for GOP bozos. Even our wealthiest school districts have laid off teachers. We have hemoraged jobs. And we are the slowest growing large state in the country. The third slowest overall. I just don't see why the people put up with that record.

2. I'm frustrated with some states..
to the point where I think we should try the tactic of mockery.

We see what happens to states that vote Republican year after year: they become more like Alabama and Mississippi (or as I like to call them, #'s 49 and 50). Education quality goes down, jobs leave, environmental quality goes down.. quality of life in general goes down. Rank the states on various quality of life issues and then color these ranking lists red and blue - where are most of the colors bunched-up? Yup. I thought so.

We need to come out directly to voters and say it to them: when you vote Republican, you vote to screw yourself and your children. The numbers don't lie.

4. actually
we could wind up worse than those places. Cleveland has classes of 40 in their schools. It has a 31% poverty rate. Ohio's growth rate is close to negative.

5. I live in NW Ohio and...
from what I see and hear it's all about the god-fearing republicans. They are so called people of god so they gotta be right. If the people around here ever woke up and got their heads out of their ass's and read something besides their local republican rags they might(now I said Might) be outraged but on second thought I doubt it!

7. Yes it is
and the largest newspaper in the state, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, isn't even covering this story.
