When Bill Richardson hires professional humorists/ speechwriters to help him before an appearance, somehow the Yahoo! headline sounds as though it's some type of scandal involving the misuse of taxpayer funds.
"SANTA FE, N.M. - It's serious business being funny on the political circuit. Just ask Gov. Bill Richardson. Richardson's campaign paid $12,000 for humor writers for his appearance at the Gridiron Club's annual dinner and political roast in March in Washington.

"It's an annual event for political humor," Billy Sparks, the governor's spokesman, said Tuesday in explaining why Richardson turned to hired funnymen.
"The Gridiron, a Washington tradition for over a 100 years, is a very important event for anyone who addresses that group," he said.
Richardson delivered a 10- to 15-minute speech, poking fun at himself — including his potential White House aspirations — and others, including President Bush."

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/paying_comicsWasn't it just last week that the same corporate media hacks were raving about how Pickles knocked 'em dead with her standup routine? I don't recall seeing any reports about how much her writers cost taxpayers or any questioning as to whether that was appropriate.
Maybe it's just me.
