In case you didn't know or hear it: Dean's ACLU speech
Edited on Sat May-07-05 05:29 PM by Carolab
http://www.publicradio.org/tools/media/player/news/midday/2005/04/21_midday2

Given in Mpls. few weeks ago.

He talks about the direction of the party, about the war and his position it, and more.

Unfortunately, the audio cuts off before the Q&A completed--and the parts where people were asking about "rigged machines and partisan secretaries of state"--again, blackout on the "election fraud"...

1. Can't view the file.
I get a message about contributing to the station to hear it.

2. It's an AUDIO file.
Wait a few minutes for it to get past the promo. It plays just fine. Do you have Real Player? That's what I use.

3. Thanks, listening now.
Will have to pause and finish it later. Thanks for sharing.

4. I think Dean is keeping quiet about the election catastrophes.
Whatever he's got up his sleeve, he seems determined not to telegraph his punches. Gotta love it.

18. One thing to always remember...
Good lawyers/politicans "always" leave a few "Aces" in their pockets for their foes. Jeez, when you're up against Rethugs you'd better have an entire deck or two in your pockets, and some.

5. This is quite good, Carolab.
I wish everyone would take time to listen, though it is quite long. It is in depth, intelligent, and very sensible.

6. They really misquoted him on the war. Totally misrepresented.
There was SO much more he said. I can not believe all the bashing he has had here for some pretty sensible statements.

Unbelievable how they do it with a one-sentence quote. Shame on us for falling for that again.

7. Ok, I thought the Rush part was funny.
Silly, but funny. Good speech. Talked a lot about Iraq, not just one sentence.

8. Shit. The quotes in news stories
were TOTALLY taken out of context, and made a lot of people mad at Dean when they shouldn't have been. Wow...

9. Amazing, isn't it?
And people are still attacking him for those out of context words, only a few among so many....and even strung together wrongly.

It is like night and day. But the ones who are so critical just won't take time to listen.

17. It has become very common to take Dean quotes out of context.
It's the only thing his opponents can think of to do!

12. You just need to be patient with it.
It starts up with a promo screen and the speech starts a bit later. It's an audio file so don't look for video.

16. Do you have your Real Player updated and all?
I have had that happen to me when I let it get outdated.

13. Very nice speech, I'm liking Dean more and more.
I agree with everyone else that the lines that created so much heat here sound very different in context.

15. I don't think the ones who wrote him the letters heard this speech.
I think they allowed the media to take a sentence or two, and twist and edit. Maybe those who wrote the open letters to Howard Dean need to take an hour and hear this.
