John Kerry Welcomes Hillary to Boston
John Kerry Welcomes Hillary to Boston
7 May 2005

Winding down a week on the road stumping for his Kids First Act, which started with an endorsement of mayoral candidate Antonio Villaraigosa, John Kerry was back in Boston today for two events with Hillary Clinton.

John Kerry and Hillary Clinton met with members of New York and Boston YouthBuild, at the Park Plaza Hotel in Boston today.

YouthBuild is a program that allows young people to get their GED while they learn vocational skills. John Kerry was an early supporter of the YouthBuild program. He wrote legislation which authorized federal funding for the program and led a bipartisan coalition in support of the funding.

After the YouthBuild event, John Kerry hosted a fundraiser for Hillary Clinton’s Senate re-election campaign, also at the Park plaza Hotel. Former state and national DNC chairman Steve Grossman, Teresa Heinz Kerry, and longtime Kerry supporter Alan Solomont were among those attending the fundraiser.

Kerry has said many times in recent weeks that the focus is on the 2006 political campaigns not 2008. Clearly, regardless of the MSM hype on 2008, John Kerry was more than happy this evening to lend a hand in getting Hillary re-elected. It’s fantastic to see this show of unity from Kerry and Clinton while the MSM would like us to believe otherwise.

2. i think mccain gored kerry just where he needed to be gored.in other words
kerry needed for his bubble to be punctured and mccain tried to let some air out of it. i believe kerry has become somewhat delusional since the elections and his surprisingly, disappointingly, and almost betrayer fully giving (conceding?) the election to bush without so much as a fight.

kerry's delusion: he doesn't realize the election was over the nanosecond he conceded to bush.

give it up kerry. it is over!

you could do all the work you are now doing for the kids without all the fanfare.

4. aren't you glad we live in a FREE country which is SCHPREADING freedom SO
that we can get to disagree on John Kerry?

and FYI, I had written this about John Kerry during the campaign against Bush ... Today, I express my thinking in a different way ... but FYI, here is what I wrote then:

Why do you come sully Florida’s soil?

By xxxxxx xxxxx-xxxxx

You! Peddler of lies. Master of deceit. Lord of manipulations. Why do you come sully Florida’s soil with your cowardly pretend-a-debate—a blue print for your oncoming full fledged dictatorship on America’s soil.

Why do you come sully Florida’s soil? Imprisoning Democracy, as you are, in the form of your opponent; straight jacketing of him in such a way that he cannot ask direct questions of you—nor you of him. Talking to each other through an intermediary who happens to be a pimp for you, as well he showed in 2000 during the moderated debates between you and Al Gore. Muzzling your opponent to short one-liner answers because you are unable and incapable of giving more than one liners to your questions; giving your intermediary pimp full control as to when he can silence your opponent.

Why do you come sully Florida’s soil? You! With your hands filled with blood, oil and deceit!

In this highly muzzled pretend-a-debate who, or what, are you afraid of?

Are you afraid of John Kerry, his penchant for truth telling? Are you afraid of his record of Service to his Country, both in Vietnam and in the United States Senate? Are you afraid that he might ask you a question for which you will have to create a new lie to give an answer to? Or, one that you will have no answer for because your record will answer it for you?

Your history of sullying the Florida soil is a long one. It started four years ago when your brother, aided and abetted by his then Secretary of State Katherine Harris, and your family’s Squeaky Fromm better known as James Baker, conspired, together with a treasonous supreme court to sit you at the Oval Office.

Four hurricanes in one month are a good visual reminder to anyone of the moral and economic havoc you have wreaked upon America and upon this Florida soil.

Control is your game. Control the dissenters. Throw them in jail. Control truth. Deny reality as far and as wide as you can. Control the votes. Count only the ones that have your name on them. Control the voting machines put no paper trails on them so that no recount is possible. Control the rules of the debate, muzzle and control your worthy opponent.

Control the light of your truth or your deceit, whichever way you want to call it. Control the angle from which the camera will be able to show your clearly craven soul to the American public. Control the television takes in which your face may speak more clearly than the words you are saying. Control, too, the takes in which your opponent’s expression may reveal the gentle light of truth, or the fragile light of freedom emanating from his soul.

Control the stage and who will attend this High Theater Performance. Leave nothing to chance. Leave nothing to truth. Leave nothing to a natural evolvement of two people coming together for the purpose of exposing and expressing to the American people who, of the two, has the best of intentions to lead the country, who, of the two has the best plan to lead the country, and who, of the two, is the one who levels with the American people.

Through this charade of yours, may the people see your truly authentic cowardly dictatorial soul.

Through this charade of yours, may the people finally see the control curtain with which you plan to gift their lives.

Come sully not the Florida soil, Mr. Bush. The swift boat veteran knows how to maneuver his boat out of the murky swamps laid by your shadowy smurkiness.

5. i don't buy it, you're echoing mccains message.
what you call 'fanfare' is necessary to bring attention to his bill, you know so it can actually have a chance, so people can actually know about it, and perhaps apply pressure for it, or atleast support us for it.

you should 'give it up' about the election already, you seem to be the one stuck on it, not kerry.

8. What is up with McCain?
I couldn't believe his hypocrital statement.

McCain himself is clearly running for 2008.

Kerry is doing his job as Senator by pushing for meaningful legislation on matters ranging from support for the troops to health coverage for kids.

On the other hand, Republicans like Allen are spending a lot of time in New Hampshire preparing for a 2008 run. I don't see McCain criticizing them.

It sure looks like Frist is taking positions from Schiavo to the nuclear option to pander to the religious right to attempt to get their support. I don't see McCain criticizing him for this.

But trying to get health coverage for kids opens Kerry up for attack.

9. I think that's precisely it.
McCain is running for 08, he's always been running for president. he knows kerry has been getting attention, and has remained active since the last election, contrary to what the gop would have liked him to; crawl back in his shell.

McCain used this as an opportunity to take some of kerry's shine, get a shot in at him, and throw gasoline on the fire with regards to speculation over his own asperations(sp) for '08.

I don't think the gop will start to attack each other until after 06, then it's on between frist, mccain, bush, rice, whomever wants to run.

7. Kerry didn't concede until it was lost
He waited an extra day, despite considerable criticism, to make sure of the numbers. Failing to concede at that point would have destroyed his credibility, along with the credibility of everyone else fighting for election reform.

Tin foil hat theories as to how the election was stolen are not enough to challenge an election. Hard proof is needed, and Kerry sent in the lawyers to look for it.

As a former prosecutor, Kerry knows better than to make accusations unless he can come up with the evidence. If Kerry challenged the results without proof, people would see all attempts at election reform as a selfish attempt to overturn the election.

Kerry did the right thing in taking himself out of the picture--as was requested by many of the people who challenged the election results. By taking himself out, it allows for issues of election reform to be considered on their own merit.

20. Enough data was in
The big question then was the uncounted votes in Ohio. He was subsequently proven to be correct that they were far short of the votes to possibly win.

That is of course based upon how votes were counted. If any evidence could be found of fraud in the counting , then his concession would have been meaningless.

21. I agree
I don't see where he had a choice.

I believe now as I did election night, that bushco stole the effin' thing. They hate democracy.

But Kerry won my trust during campaign. And I still trust he did what could be done. To believe otherwise you'd have to believe he ran and campaigned as long and hard as he did all the while not really wanting to win. That makes no sense. He watned it as bad as we wanted it, I believe, and would have done whatever possible to have it.

Btw, I still have a feeling that the final chapeter on that election has yet to be written. Just a feeling.

13. You are right
You are a perfect image of group thinking.

If you cant see McCain is the prototype of what he reproaches Kerry to be, sorry for you.

For your info, Kerry was an early sponsor of YouthBuild, so I dont see what is the problem of him meeting with them. Hillary was here for a fundraiser, so good for her to join him in that.

25. well...
Kerry does have a lot of supporters contrary to what some believe or like to spread around.

I always find it so reasuring that so many Dems like to spread Rovian talking points and buy into the MSM lies.

Prime example of that would be your posts. Again thanks for the flaming of Kerry you prove my point very well that grassroots Dems need to come to the table and learn to support our politicians.

18. The "fanfare" is to generate support that won't otherwise be there
Edited on Sat May-07-05 09:17 AM by karynnj
Kerry is trying many alternative ways to get popular backing for the kids' healthcare bill. If he can use his visibility for coverage on an issue, how is this bad. I would give him credit for giving up his free time to work outside the Senate on this. He WOULD be delusional if he thought he could simply write good legislation and get 6 (as of months ago) Democratic co-sponsors and ask Frist politely with a very nice smile to please put it on the Senate agenda or Grassley to put it on the Finance committee - healthcare sub committee agenda. He was able to get the military amendments through because he used stories he got from people via his list - shaming the Republicans to vote with him.

His phrase is "felt needs" by which he means things people feel they need so much that they will become active to get them. At this time, Kerry is doing what he needs to be doing - fortunately (for him), the same thing is the best thing to do if his goal is:
1) To be an excellent Senator
2) Helping other Democrats create their alternative to the Republican agenda - Note: Reid, Dean, Hillary etc are also in their own ways in their own positions doing this
or
3) Doing ground work that could serve him well in being selected as the 2008 candidate.

He is not doing 3) at the expense of the others. As the OP says, he hosted a large fund raiser for Hillary 2006 this week in Boston and yesterday was with Hillary at a Youthbuild event.

McCain, not Kerry should look at what he's become. If I had ever supported McCain, I would be very disappointed in the utter lack of character he showed. I wonder how he feels when he looks in the mirror. On the other hand, I am prouder now that I voted for Kerry than I was in Nov. He has class and decency - and he has shown these characteristics his whole life. Because of this perception, I am sure that if he chooses to run again he will, but if he is not the choice, I feel certain that he will very graciously concede and will put his energy behind the party's candidate.

JK down...he's doing the right thing by bringing light to this youth program and other issues in general that wouldn't get noticed...healthcare for kids, running ads exposing the extreme rethug agenda in washington, voting down bushco's extremist picks etc...

am i still pissed about the early concession...yes, but i won't let it cloud my judgement on other important issues...lets keep things in perspective ok.

lets all work for change in 2006 before we get to crazed over 2008...my state of MD will have a couple of BIG battles in 06, gov and senate races...this is where i'm putting my energy.

23. I think the point isn't whether or not he should have conceded...
but that we have to let go of it because it inevitably fosters resentment, and any emotion that is not positive DISempowers us.

So in the end, we're draining our own energy that could be used in so many empowering ways, by being ticked off.

IMHO
