Pataki Closer To Announcing He Won't Run Again
NY1's Davidson Goldin has learned that after a series of meetings with close advisors, Governor George Pataki is developing a timeline to announce that he's not running for a fourth term.

Pataki has met with top advisors over the last several weeks in New York and in California to plot a timeline for his future. The meetings have included former aides Zenia Mucha and Adam Stoll, political advisors Kieran Mahoney and Arthur Finkelstein, and current top aides John Cahill and David Catalfamo.

NY1 first reported in March that Pataki doesn't expect to run again, although he could still change his mind in the event of a terrorist attack or unanticipated event. An announcement could come within weeks, but the governor -- known for taking his time -- could instead wait until early summer.

NY1's sources say that, more than ever, Pataki wants to pursue a national position. He is said to be broadening his scope among political consultants, including the DCI Group, so that he would be prepared to run for president. He is now in the homestretch of crafting an exit strategy.

3. National punchline is more like it...
...after his clock is cleaned in the GOP primaries.

But if I remember correctly, Pataki's on record as saying the Veep nod is his true aspiration. What a chickenshit.

4. A lot of people thought
That's what Edwards did in 2004. They say he never expected to actually get the Presidential nomination, but thate he would make a big enough splash that he would be chosen as VP
