Fundamentalists, are you happy now?
We share a Christ, but we don't share his values. You vote for padding the pockets of the oilmen and investor class, whilst removing sustenance from our nation's poorest.

Are you happy now? Do you have YOUR version of Jesus esconced in our rulebooks, guilting us into casting votes for men - yes MEN only - who destroy true Christian ethics in our nation.

Me? We happen to be a part of the investor class. When we got our tax cut, what did we do? We gave more to charity monthly. That's our duty as Christians.

Our gas? Our average cost per tank rose from $18/tank to $30/tank. That hurts.

Explosions in New York? I'm sorry, didn't Bush say that entering Iraq would make us safer? Wrong.

I spent my youngest years as a Republican, my early twenties as an independent, and last year I registered as a Democrat. Now, nearing 30, I tell the Fundamentalists that their Jesus-come-lately George should be impeached. I am slowly becoming a radical, ready to strike, ready to speak, to march and to voice my anger toward a group of narcisssists who use and abuse, marching our soldiers and our people as pawns in your destructive, pithy little games.

May you find your just ends, fundamentalists. Used to the core, but can you admit it? I doubt it.

Writer.

1. They are too "oppressed" to be happy.
Everyone is against them--as they keep the phony Christian victimology drums beating. Even though their soulmates control all of government, it's just not enough.

They are being used like cheap toys. And they are clueless.

4. Their idea of paradise is spending eternity...
...driving the carriage that takes others to hell.

6. I've never thought of it that way.
I guess that's one of the marks of a fundamentalist - more willing/happy to see others get the punishment they think is deserved than to enjoy the fruits of their perceived paradise.

2. They would just say...
...that it's not true. And that all of us have to bear the burden of pain and it is the pain that brings us closer to God, ergo, we need to be in pain all the time. That is what they would say.

3. Never.
You state an impossibility.

Fundamentalism is the faith of the envious. They envy others their wealth, education, salvation... but most importantly, their freedom.

A fundamentalist can never be happy unless he is watching a non-fundamentalist suffer. That is the bitter truth of a faith based on envy.

His fantasy is to watch, smugly satisfied, while you apologize to him for existing as you turn on the rack before the eyes of your children. Even that will not make him happy, only temporarily sated in destructive envy.

5. Yes, these are the people
who read "Left Behind" books, and imagine Jesus as some beefy macho WWE guy hurling "non-believers" into the pit of hell.

As Nick Kristof said last summer, if Muslims had put out a wildly popular series of mainstream best-sellers about how Allah was going to torture and kill all of the non-believers, can you imagine the hue and cry this would cause?

7. Their Jesus is a conservative.
But in reality, Jesus was a peaceful radical, more along the lines of Ghandi. He went against the establishment Pharisees and proclaimed the Good News of grace and forgiveness through faith, not works. He called them all "whited sepulchres" (whitewashed tombs) for their hypocrisies. All nice on the outside, rotten within.

Hmm, sounds like some I've noticed in politics lately...I know! It's Dobson, Falwell, Frist, Delay, and Bush! Jesus would have spoken out against these guys.
