WASHINGTON, D.C.—Russ Tice, an intelligence analyst for the heavily secret National Security Agency, has announced that he was fired from his job earlier this week after he stood up to protest the way the agency harassed him. Tice was one of several intelligence agents who had joined former FBI translator Sibel Edmond’s new group, the National Security Whistleblowers. He appeared at an April 28 press conference on Capitol Hill to describe how the NSA treats employees it doesn’t like, specifically ones who dare to be critical.

2. I think lots more have a conscience - but are too attached to paychecks
to support their families.

And perhaps afraid for their lives!

3. Good point. This is all so damn depressing.
The information is readily available. At some point it must bother the perpetrators, but on the other hand they just get bolder.

4. I'm hoping there comes a critical mass - where the power turns
and those still in fear can come forward. Sibel's attempt at whistleblower protection in congress may well enable that.

"The United States maintains significant -- and I want to underline significant -- deterrent capability of all kinds in the Asia-Pacific region. So I don't think there should be any doubt about our ability to deter whatever the North Koreans are up to."
-- Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, May 2, 2005

The 2005 Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference opened this week with U.S. calls for international pressure on North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons program. While Secretary Rice did not attend the NPT conference, she did escalate the rhetorical war with North Korea on Monday with the above statement. Her message implies that nuclear weapons are part of the U.S. strategy for challenging North Korea’s nuclear weapons program.

The threat of nuclear war, or even the threat of perpetual nuclear stalemate, is not the best way to create an environment of peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula. South Korea and China are committed to economic and political engagement with North Korea, but the U.S. government continues to advocate confrontation and isolation."
