Bush starts to look more like a lame duck
Bush starts to look more like a lame duck
April 30, 2005

Honeymoon is over, writes Michael Gawenda, Herald Correspondent in Washington.

One hundred days into his second term, US President George Bush's popularity rating is the lowest for any second term president at this point in more than 50 years.

With only a 45 per cent approval rating, Mr Bush is more than 10 points behind Richard Nixon, who was embroiled in the early stages of the Watergate scandal, which would lead to his resignation.

Apart from national security, which remains a big issue and on which a majority of Americans think Mr Bush is doing a good job, most think he is doing badly on the economy, fervently oppose his plan to partially privatise social security, and think the war in Iraq was a mistake. Increasingly, they blame Mr Bush for sharply rising petrol prices.

Observers in Washington have even suggested that unless there is a dramatic change Mr Bush will soon be considered a lame duck president.

In fact, that is why the press conference----you know how Georgie hates press conferences!!! He and that foot rot called the Congressional GOP are so busy trying to fuck each other, fuck the American people, etc. that they are a bogged down mess going nowhere. The Dems really have been doing quite a good job picking these people off. Keep up the pressure.
