Buzzflash: Buy "Mr. Smith Goes To Washington"
What a coincidence - I just bought this at Barnes & Noble, and told them to be prepared for a rush!

4. A movie well worth having in your collection....and no re-make required.
"Bitterly denounced by Washington insiders angry at its allegations of corruption, yet banned by fascist states in Europe who were afraid it showed that democracy works." -- from IMDB

It does, it does. :)

Plus, Jimmy Stewart! :) Hey, if you're a democrat, you just gotta love Frank Capra...

6. I Wonder, If Done Right, Could This Be Shown To Fourth Graders?
Edited on Wed Apr-27-05 01:22 PM by Dinger
I know just the group, mine. :)

On Edit: This movie reminds me of Wes Clark, if people ever wake up that is. Wes Jr. mentioned it in "American Son."

7. I remember the first time I saw this movie...
I was in 3rd grade. My mom was a huge Jimmy Stewart fan. We watched it, and I understood the plot line even at that age.

One of the best things about this movie is that Jimmy Stewart's character, Mr. Smith, enlists the help of his home town folks, especially the kids. It really shows how young people can influence our country for the better...

I say go for it!! :)

11. An even more "populist" Capra film — "Meet John Doe"

Stanwyck and Cooper — and it even discusses the power of the press and its responsiblities.

13. The movie script is available online...
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939) - Screenplays for You -
http://sfy.ru/sfy.html?script=mr_smith_goes_to_washington_1939

"...JEFFERSON
*No*, sir! And we might as well get
together on this "yielding" right
off the bat. I had some pretty good
coaching last night and I find that
if I yield only for a question, a
point of order, or a personal
privilege, I can hold this floor a
little short of doomsday. In other
words, I've got a *piece* to speak--
and blow hot or cold, I'm going to
speak it...."
