RE: Social Security - The Patriotic and Christian Thing To Do........
is to raise the cap for contributions to SS. The lower and middle class have to contribute to SS up to the extent of the total wages. Currently the rich have a cap after which they don't have to continue to contribute. IMHO it is Patriotic and a Christian gesture to contribute and potentially give back to this country and to others less fortunate. I don't mind contributing to the max of my wages as this is how I justify it. I potentially helping people that are less fortunate as well as assuring some of my future retirement funds. If we frame this issue as Patriotic and Christian - I think we could pressure the rich to continue to contribute to the extent of their wages as well. Raise the Cap for the Rich - Get them to understand it is Patriotic and Christian to give back to this country and help those less fortunate.

Help me here fellow DUers - am I all wet or on to something?

1. I still want the government to put back what they stole from the fund
The keep expecting us to just forget that they took the profits from the fund when it was profitable and now they just want to change the rules to make the little guy pay for their screw up.

2. Well yeah, that's the RIGHT thing to do, but
since when is the Republican leadership in our nation concerned with doing the right thing?

3. That could be a good angle
but, then again, the Republicans might turn around and say some BS like "The Democrats are saying that if you don't pay all of your salary in taxes then you are unpatriotic"

I know its a complete lie, but look at most of their positions. Somehow it works.

But I think it could be worth a try, to frame the argument in this manner.
