Come out and say that by the year 2020 all cars in the U.S. will by a hybrid. There is nothing illegal about it, and it would help consumers with the gas problem until we finally build a real national public transportation system. Amtrak needs to get increased funding, and intelligent people must be put in charge of it. Now it's being run by shmucks. As for another renewable energy source how about something called gas hydrates. I think more study should be done into it, or we should all turn back to the most renewable resource, methane.

1. Bio Diesel !!!

Plant oil seed crops in the farm land that is not used due to farm subs. The process to convert the veg. oil to usable Bio Diesel and home heating fuel is fairly simple.

2. i am skeptical that we could make enough

biodiesel to preserve our drive-in utopia & still feed ourselves.

but it certainly is a solution for public transportation (buses, trains) in the coming era.

3. Increased scooter usage alone would make a HUGE difference

I get 108 mpg on mine, and I ride all year round in WI. It's the difference between spending $1.50 every week and a half, and spending $20 every week or more.

Everyday, I still see most people riding ALONE in 300 horsepower vehicles. Why do they need 300 horsepower? I can go 50+ mph on a 9 horsepower engine. Since they can legally only go 5-10 miles per hour faster than me (on the freeway -- no speed difference at all in town), why waste so much engine for only a little bit of speed?

And if people drove much smaller, much more efficient engines, we wouldn't need to choose between food and bio-fuels in the future.

5. I believe there is a study that showed that the entire

commercial diesel fleet could be sustained on at least a 50% (B50) blend. and that would decrease the demand on foreign crude.... I would like to try to heat my home with the Chinese Restaurant's cooking oil next winter. :9

Will destroy the ocean floor and risk putting an unsustainable amount of green house gas into the atmosphere.
