Welcome to Fairfax--if You Vote Red
So now they are keeping Democrats out of Washington, DC suburbs.
Is Rep. Tom Davis (R-VA) practicing a new form of redlining?

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/04/23/AR2005042301395.html

"Just when you thought the political polarization of this country had gone as far as it could, here comes Rep. Tom Davis with a whole new frontier for the Red-Blue wars. The Republican congressman from Fairfax seems to believe that the only way he can guarantee himself reelection till the end of time is to prevent Democrats from moving into his district."

"Davis last week announced his intent to use Congress's authority over the Metro system to force a downsizing of a huge, 2,250-unit condo, townhouse and commercial development planned for 56 acres next to the Vienna Metro station."
<snip>

"One politician who spoke to Davis says the congressman told him straight-out that he opposes Pulte Homes' Metro West project because "all it does is produce Democrats."

"Davis won reelection last year with a solid 60 percent of the vote against a largely unknown opponent, but he saw frightening cracks in his electoral foundation. "He lost Merrifield, the area around the Dunn Loring Metro station, and he's convinced that it turned blue because of development around the station, says Democrat Gerry Connolly, the Fairfax board chairman."

1. That would be the ONLY time Davis ever opposed developers.
I'm over on the Moran side of the gerrymander, fortunately. Used to be in Davis' district until they decided 22312 is too blue.

Howdy, neighbor!

3. Howdy!
Actually I'm from PA, but my sister is from Fairfax County (Oakton).
She told me about Davis, and I absolutely couldn't believe what he is doing! It looks like discrimination to me!

6. Thanks for helping out here!
We'll need the help again next year when it's time to oust Santorum.

My niece and nephew are in the Fairfax County schools. I think they go to Waples Mills. It seems like a good school.

I've been working on my sister to get on DU. I'll e-mail her this thread.

12. It would be wonderful to see Virginia go blue.
This Tom Davis idiot is using the power of Congress to withhold housing from a certain segment of the population...people from the city of Washington DC. That smells to high heaven.

and I live in Prince William County. I actually sent him a letter recently calling him an asshole. Thanks for giving me a reason to do so again.

From the article:

One politician who spoke to Davis says the congressman told him straight-out that he opposes Pulte Homes' MetroWest project because "all it does is produce Democrats."

What about Pulte condos in Lake Ridge, Virginia! Hey my precinct went blue this last time. I guess this fuck noticed!

8. Letter to Tom Davis

Subj: Democrats living in Pulte Condos

Mr. Davis, I am a Democrat who lives in a Pulte Condo in your district in Prince William County. If you would like to remove me from your district kindly send a check for $500,000 to the above address. I would gladly take my campaign signs, bumperstickers and volunteerism with me and move back to Congressman Moran's district.

I'm referencing, of course the Washington Post article addressed by this link:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/04/23/AR2005042301395.html

I look forward to hearing from you and receiving my check.

Sincerely,
