Biden is Rockin' in Senate Floor Speech, on now (CSpan2)
He made a rather extraordinary introduction to this speech, saying it would be unusual in length, and perhaps more important than any he's made. I know they tend to say stuff like that anyway, but he's really taking time to go through some comprehensive history, and I think he's just getting rolling...

Actually brought tears to my eyes the way he talked about our country NEEDING to be united, to have hope again. Hope he's seriously considering running in '08. Hey -- how bout Biden/Boxer? !!!!!

5. I missed that
He made a good point earlier about majorities, and how the majority doesn't "rule," because the minority must have its voice. To make the point, he explained that the Senate itself wasn't all about majority. A voter in Maine has 20 times the voting power of someone in California. And by population represented, the Democrats represent the majority!

I thought that was great. :)

13. no ... he didn't ...
he said something very disturbing this morning ...

he was talking about Bolton and why his past conduct regarding Cuba (something about Castro developing WMD) disqualified him from being the UN Ambassador ... i certainly agreed with his point ...

but then he said, and I'm paraphrasing because i can't remember his exact words: Bolton is the wrong man to send up to the UN when we seek their support for the US invasion of Iran or North Korea ...

i'd love to find a transcript of this morning's interview ...

Biden sounded pretty damned hawkish to me ... how about sending an ambassador to the UN to encourage them to work for a diplomatic solution to all these global issues ????????????

9. Hatch just LIED! He said "nuclear option" was a Democratic term
It was coined by Trent Lott!

http://www.newyorker.com/fact/content/index.ssf?050307fa_fact

Changing the Senate’s rules on judicial filibustering was first addressed in 2003, during the successful Democratic filibuster against Miguel Estrada, whom Bush had nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. Ted Stevens, a Republican Senate veteran from Alaska, was complaining in the cloakroom that the Democratic tactic should simply be declared out of order, and, soon enough, a group of Republican aides began to talk about changing the rules. It was understood at once that such a change would be explosive; Senator Trent Lott, the former Majority Leader, came up with “nuclear option,” and the term stuck.

11. Why does this surprise you?
This has been there defense in the past 2 days... it's probably one of their talking points.

These guys lie whenever the tide turns against them. It's their MO.

Orin Hatch is such a Nazi Jackass. I wish he'd get booted out of office.

10. Why do the repubs keep saying this has never been done?
What is the truth? I know that some of Clinton's choices never even reached the floor for a debate. They never mention that. They did it differently in Clinton's time. They never explain it and the press won't give the details.

29. Yeah, but Biden would FIGHT BACK
unlike Kerry. You wouldn't see the Thugs getting away with any Swift Boat Wacko lies without retaliation or response. I've gained renewed respect for Biden in the past week -- he and Barbara Boxer seem to be only Dems who are really willing to put themselves on the line and fight back. Enough of the capitulating -- we need some damned FIGHTERS out there for us!

on the Bankruptcy Bill? How he fought for us with voting for Roberto Gonzalas?? How he fought for us with verifying the election results? Yeah... you're right. We need fighters... consistant ones. Biden's fight shifts with the changing winds.

31. Biden would have trouble with the base because he's a hawk
They would be able to call him a "northeastern out of touch liberal" but in reality he isn't all that liberal on some issues. Also like Kerry he has a voting record about a mile long.

I'd vote for the guy over a Republican, but I think that many on DU would resort to a third party if Biden were the nominee.
