Sam Seder just said that WLIB is the #1 Talk Radio station in NYC.
During the weekend I heard Maureen Dowd say that AAR is playing in every taxi she rides in.

3. Damn!
Last week a local talk show host was talking about AAR having low ratings. I figured it was a foxed up story, where they include music stations in the ratings. They said WLIB was rated 22nd, or something like that.

6. This is stationwide
not all AA shows attract the same audience. Arbitron will not allow specific hourly show ratings to be released.

I would expect Franken and Rhodes to be much higher. And you can add Ed Schultz to other national stations who carry part of the Jones Radio lineup.

8. so?
The original poster stated WLIB is the #1 talk station in NY. It isn't.

Plus, the original poster said "WLIB" - not individual shows. WLIB is the 24th rated station in NY overall.

Hey! I love AAR. But a fact is a fact. There is no way to spin higher overall ratings for WLIB.

12. I am intrigued. #1 Talk would equate with being 22nd overall it seems
sounds about right for a talk radio format in NYC

What people forget is how long it took Rush to build his "empire"

decades IIRC

15. no
WABC-AM and WOR-AM, classified as "talk," lead WLIB as does WINS-AM and WCBS-AM, classified as "News/Talk."

17. Here's The Good News...Salem Is Sucking Eggs
First, thank you for your analysis on the numbers. It's nice to see someone here at DU who has an understanding of what they say and mean.

Scanning through the various markets, I am glad to see how strong AAR stations are doing vs. "The Patriot"...the ultra right wing network from Salem that features the ilk of Laura Ingraham, Dennis Prager, Michael Medved, Michael Savage and a ton of other hate spewers. THESE are the numbers AAR should feel real good about.

Just a couple...

New York:

WLIB-AM Inner City Talk 1.3 1.3 1.4 1.2 1.2
WMCA-AM Salem Christian Talk 0.0 0.6 0.3 0.4 0.3

San Francisco:

KQKE-AM Clear Channel Talk 1.5 1.9 1.0 1.0 1.0
KFAX-AM Salem Christian Talk 0.0 0.0 0.4 0.0 0.5

Miami:

WINZ-AM Clear Channel Talk 0.4 0.7 1.2 1.2 1.1
WKAT-AM Salem News/Talk 1.2 0.7 0.7 0.7 0.4

These are comparable signals in each market...and targeting the same age demo.

Plus there's still incomplete numbers from Portland, Minneapolis, Detroit, Cincinatti and other markets where AAR has only been on the air a few months...it takes at least 6 months to spot a solid trend (as you'll note above).

"The Patriot" is sucking eggs in almost every market...and real dismal against the big Clear Channel hate talkers (one step at a time kids).

BTW...to the AAR marketing department....You're welcome!

4. Its too bad that complicity in the 9/11 attacks are not being discussed.
Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING begins and ends with that.

10. This is not surprising...every single repub on radio or tv is so
predictable...most of us know what they're going to say. Since they all follow talking points, the only difference is the degree of whine and decibel. People are hungry for the truth and the other side. If there were no WMDs, what else is not true? Is it too soon to say that many are waking up?
