My fundie bro. I thought you guys might find this amusing
My newly found, long lost brother wrote this little snippet to me:

Yeah, I agree that lifestyle choices and religion are probably taboo subjects but politics is cool. Besides my side is winning big time. This years presidential election was the most satisfying of my life. The left threw everything they could at President Bush and he still won. I recommend a book (which I know you won't read but I'll recommend it anyway) called "The Vast Left-Wing Conspiracy" by Byron York. It details the coordination (illegal by the way) between the Kerry campaign and the 527s as well as other things such as George Soros, Fahrenheit 911, Air America and Moveon that all worked together to throw as much firepower at Bush as possible in an attempt to knock him off. It shows how they broke the very campaign finance laws they championed in order to achieve their main objective. An excellent read. The only way Democrats can win is to cheat. They tried it in Florida in 2000 and are still fuming about it even though every recount since has shown Bush to be the winner. In spite of that we have a majority of the governorships, a majority of the statehouses, and a majority in the House and Senate. The only thing the left can count on is our out of control judiciary to give them what they could never achieve at the ballot box. Blood pumping yet?

My response:

I love your sense of humor. I'm glad that when the RNC brainwashed you, they left that sense of humor intact. I am really pleased that you are this interested in politics but saddened by the sources you choose to get your information from.

Nope, politics is going to have to be off-limits. We don't just differ on a few points, we are polar opposites in this regard.

1. Ouch.
Sounds like a tough brother to have.

Luckily, all of my immediate family and most of my extended family is bleeding-heart liberal, and many of those who are conservative despise **.

I can empathize, though, I've gone to school all my life with people like your brother.

2. The Shadows distort reality because
they look into the eyes of humans
and upon seeing their own reflection there,
describe that reflection
as if it belonged to the person into whose eyes they are looking.

4. That was painful to read.
It's like listening to a science teacher explain that things are combustible because all the four elements are present in differing amounts in everything, and that fire can be 'let out' of a material by applying fire.

Yeah - it's about the same.

So I would remind him that Byron York all but admitted that the left is just trying to catch up with the much more organized 'Right-wing-conspiracy'.

I would also ask what evidence that the campaign coordinated with the 527s exists, and then ask if he knows who the swift-boat vets are.

Gosh I wish he were my brother- I'd tear him apart eventually.

8. Refute what he says and make an ass out of him
"The Vast Left-Wing Conspiracy" is a book about how the left built in less than a year what took the Republicans 30 years to build, a political machine, and is in no way a polemic. (The author was on the Daily Show, you can probably find the interview.) And the coordination wasn't illegal, and if so, no less legal than the right's actions in 2004.

The people who tried it in Florida were his side, and they were successful. Numerous scholars have contended that Gore would've won a fair election. The point that "every recount since has shown Bush to be the winner" makes him a fucking idiot, because there was only gonna be one recount and it was stopped by his side.

And ask him in what way is the judiciary out-of-control?

After that, don't ever talk to him again.

11. Thank you, but no
Look back on some of my other threads about this. I thought long and hard about how I wanted to handle this and this is how I decided to handle it.

I'm not going to refute anything here because it's like teaching a pig to fly, it doesn't work and it tends to piss off the pig.

14. Why do these wing nuts lack any ability to think?
Edited on Tue Apr-26-05 08:45 PM by xray s
A majority of the judiciary have been appointed by Republicans. A majority of the Supreme Court, which refused to hear the Schiavo appeals, are Republican appointees. Judge Greer in Florida is a conservative Republican Baptist. The wing nuts want to inpeach Supreme Court Judge Kennedy, who was appointed by Ronald Reagan! (I think the name Kennedy just makes their brains go pop)

Stupid morons.
