Bush would rather beg Saudis for more oil than ask us for conservation.
The Leader of the Free World and Defender of the Christian Faith has to beg a Wahabi monarch. Why? Because he would rather do that, and get shot down, then take a single step to energy independence.

Ideology and greed and his corporate owners require him to ignore conservation and alternative tech. But debasing himself and his country only hurts the nation, not his political chances. Disgusting. Bush, do what's right for AMERICA for a change!

1. He's not begging for anything
He's laughing his ass off with the Wahabi monarch and counting the $$. The Bushies, the Saudis and their pals have had all of this planned for a very long time.

2. and even more oil won't help prices
since there is a bottle-neck caused by limited refining capacity . . .

the only real way to reduce dependency on foreign oil is to reduce our consumption, but god forbid they do anything to get in the way of soccer moms and NASCAR dads tooling around in their Stupid Urban Vehicles . . .

3. The corporate owners think "quarter to quarter" and today's close
If the corporate owners of GM and Ford had any foresight they would have been out in front on the risk of and response to "Peak Oil", and they would have been out in front on alternative fuel systems.

Now, they are not making enough money to pay their bills. Their 2005 response is "bail out our health insurance obligations" - and their 2006 response will be the same as United Airlines - "bail out our pensions."

They could have beat Toyota and Honda at the starting gate.

4. It will be interesting to see if they can comply or if...
...they are already past their peak production and maxed out already. The manure will really hit the air-moving device if that's the case.

5. Guys on the radio were saying
that there isn't much more current capacity, and that the Saudis would need some sort of capital expansion. That means nothing much happens in the short term--not that I would want a short term "fix". As long as we aren't looking short term, how about Bush looking long term?

6. That isn't even why they are meeting
The real topic was about Saudi Arabia's bid to enter the WTO.

The talk about gas prices was a ruse.

7. the bottom line is the bottom line . . . conservation and alternative . .
energy threaten oil industry profits . . . Bush and Cheney are oilmen . . . therefore, conservation and alternative energy are not attractive options . . . end of story . . .
