The Democratic party is the official party of the "CULTURE OF LIFE"
I have been thinking about the term "culture of life" for the past week, and realized that the democratic party has a royal flush when it comes to the culture of life. I believe that the democratic party can use this to their advantage and even garner a few religious votes in the process. Even if it doesn't, at least we can relish when the right-wing tries to squirm from these points. BTW, I am not a great writer but I think you'd like the content.

1. Abortion - The right wing supports "back-alley" abortions. Pure and simple and it should be framed that way because it is the truth. We never take it to them that you can never get rid of abortions in this country. If you make it illegal, then scared girls and women would still get their procedures done by unregulated and unhealthy means. This is not only endangers the embryo (or child if you want) but also the mother. The right wing is potentially endangering two lives rather than one.

2. War - The democratic party has been adamant about not going to war in Iraq. The democratic was absolutely opposed to the war in Iraq, and has been saddened by the loss of U.S. Troops fighting there, but also of the more than 100,000 Iraqi civilians that have died there. The democratic party was shocked and saddened by those tortured and died in Abu Ghraib prison.

3. Gun Control - The democratic party is an advocate of gun control and education so that children don't obtain guns and kill themselves with guns left out by unresponsible parents. Guns should also be kept from falling into the wrong hands causing the killing of thousands of Americans every year.

4. Death Penalty - What "culture of life" party would every condone the the death penalty. This is really the issue to really stick to the right wing because they love the death penalty so much, if you don't believe me listen to Bush laughing at Karla Faye Tucker.

5. Baby Sun - Your retort to the Schiavo case. For more information about it read this link at DailyKos....
http://lawnorder.dailykos.com/story/2005/3/19/18544/7086

6. Environment - Because of rightwing lax views on the environment doesn't mean they are not accountable for deaths of people who are affected by allowing corporations to pollute. Case in point, the poisoning of PCBS to people of Anniston, Alabama by Monsanto Corporation (http://www.voteyeson27.com/monsanto.htm). So what does Bush do to come down on Monsanto? Well he hires an executive to a high-ranking post in the EPA. This is the strongest issue for democrats and the "culture of life".

I hope this sheds light on 2006 and 2008 possibilities.

2. I made point #1 some years ago in a choice/life discussion
and pretty much shut the other side down.

I like "Culture of Caring" myself. Much better than the Republican's Culture of what's in it for me.

4. It's hard to change a perception by using an established
slogan. It reinforces the validity of the slogan which already belongs to the Republicans by dent of they invented it.

Gotta have one that is as good as or better than and can be backed up.

5. If we frame it as "official", take care to not make it sound like an edict
and that it is backed by substance and facts that make it add up to being "official".

As someone that's disgruntled who's been wearing their "Sirius Satellite Radio glasses" lately in the last couple of weeks, I've learned to abhor and disregard the term "official" when it isn't backed up with meaningful substance, as in the case of XM being the "official" satellite radio carrier of Air America. I can see how those looking from outside the Democratic Party might feel the same way, unless you make the case clearly for this being so first so that the adjective doesn't get as dismissed as it does for me looking at XM Radio.
