This poll looks freeped to me -- please DU it.

Most San Diegans support the proposed effort to recall "Mayor" Murphy, but you wouldn't know it from this poll.

Thanks, everyone.

5. Time magazine worst mayor
When he was elected mayor in 2000, Dick Murphy thought he had his hands full dealing with a troubled ballpark project and sewer spills that were shutting down San Diego's beaches. But then Murphy, 62, a state superior court judge, became embroiled in an even bigger mess: a $1.35 billion deficit at the city's public-employee pension fund. The crisis has so discredited him, he almost lost his job last November to Donna Frye, a last-minute write-in candidate who runs a surf shop. She actually won more votes, but some 5,500 people who wrote in her name failed to shade in an oval box, and the courts ruled the ballots invalid.

6. Think he is repuke.

Until Mrs. Frye announced her candidacy as a write-in, the contest was between Mr. Murphy, a Republican, and city supervisor Ron Roberts, another Republican and an evangelical. San Diegans who wanted her to be their next mayor wrote her name under those of Mr. Murphy and Mr. Roberts.

7. He's a puke.

Read question everything's post above. Big money loves him, but the demographics are no different in San Diego than elsewhere. The wealthy elite are a tiny minority of the population. They tend to control the media, which makes them look more numerous than they are, but most people are middle or lower income and care more about city government being open, honest, and accountable, than about big breaks for big bucks. The guy who has announced his intention to file the recall is a puke who once voted for Murphy but happens to be a fiscal conservative and now wants him out.

Murphy, meanwhile, is claiming that the whole thing is a smear campaign coordinated by his enemies, and that any mention of the city's fiscal woes could harm the business environment.
