OK repuke rep. will not support shrub's student grant cuts

Congressman Tom Cole says he's willing to go against his party in order to support a federal program that helps disadvantaged students prepare for college.

President Bush proposes eliminating the $309-million GEAR UP program, which provides grants for schools to help low-income students into college.

Oklahoma students in 144 school districts have participated in college preparation efforts through the program.

Cole says it's rare for him to break ranks with his party, but says the program is important to Oklahoma

How he had EXPANDED funding for this?

Edit: it was Pell Grants that he was bragging about, then Kerry pointed out he had cut funding for that (too).

4. This is the guy who said "vote against chimp=vote for Hitler" comment

http://www.opednews.com/burgwin0322704_cole_hitler.htm

Republican Congressman Tom Cole recently made the claim that a vote against the re-election of President Bush is like a vote for Adolph Hitler. If Representative Cole were the defense attorney in a trial, this statement would have just “opened the door” to questioning by the prosecuting attorney on previously suppressed testimony regarding the Bush administration’s similarity to the Nazi’s.
