Clark running for Prez-why is it not all over this board? I saw it post
posted in a couple of places here on Du but nothing else.

As far as I know he is the first person to say definitely that he is running in 08.

Has it been "disproved" or something? I can't believe it is not all we are talking about this morning.

If it were Howard Dean, you'd have to put a sock in my mouth to get me to shut-up.

Clark supporters - where are you?

2. Here, pinching myself!
It sounds like it wasn't a formal Announcement (too early for that) but a clear indication. I'm just hoping to hear more, from the General himself.

(Wearing my Clark04 t-shirt today, though!)

4. I'm just watching. I still love and support Wesley K. Clark. Love and
belief in Wesley K. Clark can be a lightening rod here even for long time supporters amongst themselves.

Please see my post which encourages a discussion about what Clark's announcement means for the Democratic party and for our nation in 2006 and in 2008.

9. considering I just became aware of it from another thread
"As the General was addressing the crowd he said, "some of you have been asking whether I am going to run in 2008" (not an exact quote) and the crowd start chanting "Go Wes Go". Than he cracked a joke about how he was drafted so late and got a late start to the campaign and said the if he ever got drafted again he would make sure to get an early start and then followed with THIS TIME he wants to make sure that he gets enough funds, so he won't be in '04 situation."

I wouldn't call this quote a major call to run. None of the usual formality and press conference but I thinks it's fair to say he will run.

17. Yes, Clark knows the ground rules and protocol
Remember how for 2004 the game was played? First there would be insider strategy meetings and fund raising calls, then speaking engagements in Iowa and New Hampshire and the like, then an "Exploratory Committee", then hard core stumping for months, and then finally, a formal announcement.

What I like about what Clark is doing here, is he is not playing games with us. He is not going along with the typical political charade of publicly saying "Oh I'm far too busy on this or that to have given any thought to 2008 yet" while all the time furiously trying to shake down the press and money men and placing phone calls to every influential Democrat in the country. Clark doesn't believe that average Americans should be the last to know what is really going on. He is being absolutely true to character.

I have a hard time understanding the out rage some seem to feel about a major Democrat admitting to his supporters that he expects to run in 2008. Does anyone for a split second think that Kerry and Edwards and at lest a few other Democrats are not just as seriously planning, right now, to run as Clark is, just that they are ducking the issue in public? Clark may yet decide not to follow through and commit himself formally to a run. But he isn't playing "coy". I think that's great. The time for all important decisions in politics being made behind the scenes and only trotted out for commoners to digest well after the fact is over.

22. Great post Tom, as usual.

This is what I have been thinking, but you put it all together very well.

Clark is being straightforward with his intentions. He will do everything he can to support the Democratic Party now and in 06', while preparing for a presidential run in 08'if he is "drafted" again by popular demand (he will "have to take our advice on that" :-)).

He is doing exactly what every military planner does. Prepare for all possible contigencies...especially the most likely ones.

This was not an announcement of the beginning of a formal run for the presidency. It was an announcement that, with our help, he will be prepared and is preparing lead a charge on the White House in the future if called by the people to run.

I do appreciate Wes' straighfowardness and honesty compared to what career politicans are doing in preparation for 08'. It's very refreshing.

16. Now THAT is a great answer
The truth is out there and you don't have to be Mulder and Sculley to uncover it.

Anyone on DU who hasn't heard our explanations of why we support this guy just hasn't been paying attention.

Or is just an iconoclast ;^)

20. From the dKos diary ...

The big question "Am I going to run again?"

The crowd goes WILD. Shouting, screaming, women's panties on stage...uh, no, I'm making that up. But trust me, if this crowd could've they would've.

Drum roll please: "Well...I'll certainly have to take your advice about that."

Well ... that's substantially different than the "I've ruled nothing out" line he's been uttering for months. I wouldn't call it a declaration, but it sure looks like as strong indication, since he damn well knows how we would advise him. :-)

19. Oolkay itay ...
it's a sneak attack. We're stalking those right wing, neo fascist, puke gutted illegitimate offspring of dogs.

Clark is a warrior who has over a period of many years allowed progressive values to overrun his heart. Thus guided, he has engaged that turbo charged brain of his to achieve a restoration of the progressive agenda. It has recently become clear that he also intends to confront the theocrats in a brutally direct (and thoroughly pious) manner.

Is Clark the best man we have to occupy the White Hourse? Quite possibly, but there are other excellent choices. Most Clarkistas of my acquaintance are open to those alternatives ... like Clark, we are committed to victory. Victory requires that we win the battle of ideas. Clearly, if nothing else, Clark is fully engaged in that battle. His is one of several Democratic voices growing in strength and influence. And the right wingnuts do truly fear his potential influence on the voters.

21. at least he is not a COWARD like most elected dems...........
aiding and abetting the Bush fascist agenda is the number one priority to too many elected dems. especially here in CA where the dems in the legislature handed the voting apparatus over to the repubs without a fight....................traitors to democracy.
