Trent lott on George S.People of faith are being abused.
Seemed to liken it to the blacks in the 50's.Said they are being politically abused by the democrats.Trent says anyone who speaks for the religous right is being attacked. The whole debate stemmed from the fact that Frist is speaking at the Family counsels banquet and schoomer said that the Maj. leader has no place speaking at such an event.

1. Whenever I'm in doubt about anything, I turn to people --
-- like Trent Lott for clarity and moral guidance.

What a beacon he is in these troubling times.

:sarcasm:

________
Are there no Republicans who will speak against Frist's obvious pandering and the general trend in the news lately that "Democrats abuse people of faith" ?

Does John Danforth believe that Democrats abuse people of faith? He's a minister. What's his take on this, and where is his voice?

I'm listening for somebody with a SPINE in the Republican Party and so far I don't hear anything.

Lott's support of this meme is further proof that he's a cretin.

13. yes--and I guess this means he likes "political correctness"

after all...IF it means censoring those who would dare to criticize bad behavior from so-called Christians.

But "PC" is still terrible if it means reigning in racist, sexist, homophobic, etc., behavior.

2. Blacks weren't throwing their..."blackness'...in others' faces and...
trying to convince people to be black and that believing in the black way was the only way to be moral and virtuous.

Now, substitute black with "Christian" (include the quotes ;) ) and see if it fits.

3. ah yes...
how tough it is today to be Christian in America.

The second class treatment, the separate bathrooms and water fountains, the "glass ceiling" and heaven forbid (no pun intended) if you try to run for office and you arent Muslim, agnostic, atheist or goodness at least Hindu, you wont ever get elected.

5. I didn't think I'd ever say
This but I think I agree with Trent Lott. Obviously I don't agree with the analogy of being persecuted like Blacks in the 50's, that's assanine, but I dont agree that Frist doesn't have the right to speak in front of whatever Fundie org. he wants to. The NRA convention is a who's who of Republican legislators, why can't Frist speak in front of some Fundies

10. Sure, he should be able to address the KKK, Neonazis, all the militias...
Edited on Sun Apr-17-05 11:01 AM by hlthe2b
:eyes: because, though you may not be aware, this particular fundie group has advocated violence against judges they perceive to be obstructing RW fundie objectives. So, you still think this is appropriate for the highest ranking member of the US Senate, who has sworn to uphold the US constitution?!!!!!!!!!!!!!

11. who said he doesnt have the right...
heck he has the right to speak at a klan rally followed by a side keynote speech at the hitler youth spelling bee...that doesnt mean that its not something that doesnt deserve criticism or disdain.

This isnt simply about a simple fundie org, this is a fundie org making the argument that democrats are not only anti-religion, but that they are against those who are religious.

I mean if they said Democrats will rape your wives, eat your children, and steal your best putter it wouldnt be much further against the pale.

8. "Some of my best friends are Christians...."
but I won't let them date my daughter or sit in front of the bus with me.

The other night, we put on our tie-died sheets and hoods and had a good, old-fashioned "oak tree burning." That'll keep those Christies in their place!

4. Keep it up, Trent, and I think the christian right will be getting more
blow-back for their bad behavior then they ever imagined. No one's done anything to them yet, but if they keep hating and abusing people, it will come back at them soon.

7. If only Strom Thurmand had been elected back in his
Dixiecrat days, the blacks wouldn't have gotten all those civil rights and Trent wouldn't have them to compare to the present-day fundies!

Do you see how all of that equal rights stuff was nothing more than a 60-year plot by the lib'ruls to persecute Xtians? Man, those are some evil lib'ruls!

9. yeah, it really sucks when you can't impose your beliefs
on others, discriminate against people who don't share your "morals", or pass laws that deny women rights to control their own bodies, etc.

... they have the presidency (executive), they have the congress (legislative) but now that they've realized the (courts) judicuary are going to follow the law rather then their whims, they are being abused?
