Great meetings with our congresspersons...DFA, True Majority, Pictures.
This was just the beginning of what DFA plans to do locally. Most of us were quite surprised at the surprise of our Republican congressmen and/or their aides at our just wanting to sit down and talk about issues.....yesterday mainly Social Security. We called it National Action Day. Actually we enjoyed ours a lot, surprisingly.

Here are some pictures and snippets from the blog.
http://www.blogforamerica.com

Democracy for Kentucky, now called Change for Kentucky.
SNIP: "Yesterday, Change For Kentucky members from Fayette and Franklin counties met at the office of Representative Ben Chandler (D-KY) to express our concerns about President Bush's plan to gut Social Security. Our group, which ranged from a 30-something librarian to a retired veteran of World War II, filled the conference room! We spoke to Mike Noyes and Beth Overman, part of Chandler's staff. CFK Political Committee leader Dan Schumer was our main spokesman, but we all had a chance to express our views...."

Several more in the next post. Real feet on the ground action.

1. Several other events with pictures and notes.
SNIP..."Communications Chair of Fingerlakes Democracy for America.

"Although our local event happened yesterday, I'd like to say a few words about it. I posted yesterday on the blog that I had an absolutely peachy day! Myself and other citizens from seven different counties represented by Sherwood Boehlert (R) 24th Conressional District in NYS, gathered at his district office in Cortland, NY to rally and ask once again that he hold open meetings.

The most beautiful thing about this afternoon was the fact that I had never met most of these people until yesterday. The thing that connected us all was the fact that we wanted our representative to "Show us the Democracy" and meet his constituents and talk about Social Security"

Gettysburg:
SNIP.."Gettysburg Area DFA met yesterday with Senator Rick Santorum (yes, that one), Congressman Todd Platts and a representative for Senator Arlen Specter down in Washington, D.C. to discuss Social Security. All are Republicans. We secured assurances from both Platts and Specter that keeping Social Security solvent was the primary need and "private accounts" were a separate issue that should to be addressed after the solvency issue is addresses and solved."
"Santorum, however, was very frustrated by our lack of support for his program. He railed against us and then, very clumsily, noted we had only 14 people in the room and he needed to leave as 60 doctors were waiting for him elsewhere."

And one from Central Florida. The aide had chosen a small anteroom. We filled it up. As our group from Tampa, Brandon, and Lakeland was speaking to the aide, her red-haired boss, Congressman Putnam was pounding the gavel and ramming the bankruptcy bill through. She was nice, and was surprised at the group. There are others who are not in the picture, as they are stuffed in corners.

3. Can you believe the way Santorum walked out on them?
Guess he does not like to be questioned.

4. Someone should tell the local press about it.
Sorry, Rick, that "we don't agree with you" and that a teeming mass of fans wasn't there to greet you.

5. Each DFA has a press person, supposedly.
I would imagine they did tell them. Of course it won't get covered.

6. We met with an aide
to our congressman yesterday. (Sweeney, NY, R, CD20). There were ten of us. He was actually very nice, took notes and listened. No on thought to take pics!
