OMG - Did you hear Clark on Bill Maher ?? FUNNY
He said, "I love golf, and I am not going to stop playing golf because Tom Delay plays golf. Tom Delay needs to stop playing golf. If you can't trust him in congress, you can not trust him to keep score."

CLARK IS A DREAM ! HE WILL BE THE ABSOLUTELY BEST PRESIDENT WE EVER HAD -- I CAN NOT WAIT !!!!!!

6. Yeah, but, see... you let the wingers talk too much and then
Edited on Fri Apr-15-05 11:38 PM by Clark2008
just like in the Schiavo case, they sound like what they are - power-hungry idiots.

Clark let Frum talk 'til he sputtered (Clark: "your president..." Frum: "buh, buh, buh, he's YOUR president too... whine, whine, cry...") and then Clark killed him with, "You want to talk about proliferation? You'll lose."

PERIOD.

NEXT...

19. frum got lots of air time, but he used it to make a complete fool of
himself. I lost count of the number of times the audience laughed at what he said. And they weren't laughing because they thought he was funny. They laughed because his lies were so obvious. Wes and Natalie Maines rocked, especially when they were smacking frum.

Wes is so handsome. :loveya:

9. For those who hadn't read this tidbit.....from Washington Whispers
Is Clark running in 2008?
Seems friends of retired general and 2004 presidential candidate Wesley Clark are still after him to run. During the Association of State Democratic Chairs' meeting last week in Little Rock, Ark., Clark hosted a group from the Alabama Democratic Party for dinner at the city's political hub–Doe's. The group, reports our Suzi Parker, included the state director of the Alabama party and about 15 grass-roots folks who traveled from Alabama to meet Clark. The group believes Clark is the only hope the party has to win southern states. They strongly encouraged Clark to run in 2008. Clark's answer? The same as before: He isn't ruling out a run for president in 2008. Some Arkansas Democrats who also attended the meeting offered to form an alliance with the Alabama party to help their efforts and promote Clark in the South.

10. I just finished watching the Show.....
Edited on Sat Apr-16-05 02:44 AM by FrenchieCat
and Wes could have and should have talked more. He seemed pretty mellow and laid back....but much more than was needed. He did have a few good jokes, and his manner of carriage was endearing.

But I enjoy the General much more when he gets wonkish and does a lot of talking!

I particularily liked what he had to say about needing to have a ban on Assault Weapons...that no one needs those anywhere in the U.S., and that we do need the Brady Bill....and that if you want to use guns, then join the army. Also saying..."I have 20 guns in my house, and I'm a Democrat". I think that said a lot about Democrats to those 2nd admendment loving folks without. We need Gun laws and regulations....but that doesn't mean that Democrats are against responsible gun ownership in total. Good Dem message; wisely managed.

He did look Extra grand and really, really Presidential! Props on that! (some of y'all can pretend that's not important...but we know betta').

Barbara Boxer is definitely Veep material for the right candidate (can you say Clark?) She is a true blue classy pit-bull of the most articulate type....she is tough without being hard, and has a very nice smile.

Frum is a babbling stammering idiot who looked like a big-O fool.

Bill Mahr just loves his own opinions, and the sound of his own voice.

Natalie Maines (Dixie Chick) will vote for the General in 2008!

17. Wes scoped out Maher quickly
The thing about being on Maher's show, a guest has almost no control of the flow of conversation. Maher can and will hijack it at any moment with a joke and/or a sharp turn of direction. My sense while watching last night was that Clark was prepared to be more substantiative, but quickly saw that Maher wasn't keying in on Clark's opinions last night, the focus was kept on the right winger. Once that became clear Clark laid back more, and picked his moments.

This is a big improvement for Clark from the early days during his Presidential run when he would struggle to complete his full line of thought even while the interviewer was trying to shut Clark down. Bottom line, they control the microphone, and it sometimes left Clark looking off balance mid way through a sentence when his time was cut off. On rare moments, especially with an overtly hostile interviewer, Clark will still demand that he be heard, and that is usually Quite effective. With Maher though, in a "comedy" setting, Clark knows he can't get too serious for too long if Maher isn't interested in going there. Clark made an excellent adjustment, in my opinion, and scored a few solid points while coming across relaxed and quite likable.

Clark did NOT duck facing down the gun lobby OR being decisive about genocide in the Sudan. It just takes him a second or two, and Clark will be on record taking tough stands on issues that most politicians like to dance around.

11. just read some "after the show show" reports....
Edited on Sat Apr-16-05 03:00 AM by FrenchieCat
CCN blogger who attended the show in LA--
Wes (I call him Wes now!) and Bill had about a one half hour very passionate "talk"! It was great!! Wes was calling Maher on all his naivete about Syria and the ME and even gave him the rooster line! Told him to read his article in the Baltimore paper, basically won the argument.

Oh, I had such a wonderful evening. Much to tell but it's very late and I'd be better off blogging it tomorrow.

More....(I hope they don't mind that I'm pasting this).
You all had incredible instincts here....everyone said they'd wished Wes would set Maher straight on Iraq and the ME not being a cause celebre of the bush administration....well, let me tell you about Wes at the after party!

He was fighting for Maher to get it! He was so passionate. Started with the Syrian example, how we couldn't give bush credit -- he even told my hubby he thought the bush admin was claiming credit for what was the result of an assassinated leader... He moved on to Palestine and the death of Arafat, I was eavesdropping at this time sandwiched behind Maher and next to Natalie Maines who was keenly interested in Wes's views on Iraq. He and Maher were sparring for what seemed a half hour. We were joined in the listening session by Wes's Communications director who will be blogging with us sometime soon. It got heated, but Wes told him what he needed to hear. Do not fear-- the opportunity was NOT missed to answer that question. Wes was just classy enough to save it for off camera.

Gert was wonderful as well. Had a big discussion at dinner with Frum , who -- curiously sat himself directly across from Wes and Gert and seemed very intent on engaging them both in conversation. This was a surprise because during the show he showed NO interest in anyone or anything. He even nodded off during the Boxer interview. But at dinner, with a beer and a mouthful o food, he and Gert were going at it big time about something!

Wes Jr was there but I didn't get to meet him. (Black turtleneck- zip up collar- for those of you who are turtleneck fans)

I will try to present a more organized version of events tomorrow on my blog.

12. Vicarious Politics!
Hey, I'll take what I can get.

We will see if Maher sings a new tune or will he just keep on crowin'?

What is important is that the General did his best. Go Gert!!!

Let's hear for the backbone brigade.

18. Unless Maher's ego gets in the way...
He bragged on Wolf Blitzer's show about getting incredibly intelligent guests like Wes Clark on his show.

But if he thinks Clark will make him look stupid, he won't ask him back. Or such is my concern.

Otoh, Maher's ego may be big enough he'll think he can handle Clark. LOL. Yeah right... Or maybe I should give Maher more credit that he can be brought back from the dark side. If anyone can do it, it'd be Clark.

16. "Wes was just classy enough to save it for off camera"
However he did put Maher on notice ON camera, after Maher made some comment about lately giving the President more credit for how Iraq is working out. I believe Clark's comment on air was something like "I want to talk to you about that" which got a laugh from the audience, but it turns out Wes mean exactly what he said, eh? It didn't take him long to make sure Maher got that talk.

20. I Went To One Of The Real Time Shows With Clark...
I have to say although I didn't vote for him in the primary I was really impressed that after the tape stopped somebody from the audience called out to him and he came over to the audience to shake hands and talk. He seemed really sincere -- seemed like a good guy.

13. I'm with ya...
.... Clark is just one of the very few people in politics that I fvlat out admire. He is smart, quick, is able to articulate his positions in such a way that even if you don't agree with him you have to hand it to him.

Speaking of issues, I disagree with him on the "assault weapons" point, but I'll happily work for and vote for him because I know he'd make a historically great president!

I hope more and more people get to see him over the next couple of years, I think he will win lots of hearts and minds.

14. I disagree with him on a few points, too, different ones than yours,
But I figure if we keep waiting for a Dem president we agree with on each and every item, we'll never get one again. The important thing is that I have found he can be trusted to do what's right.

You said it just right!

"even if you don't agree with him you have to hand it to him"

We're glad to have you with us, sendero :hi:

22. Yes, Winning Hearts and Minds
I really think that's the key.

I know W-voters who weren't particularly passionate about the issues, but just voted for him from a gut feeling that they trusted him. (I don't get that, and find him anything but trustworthy, but that's how some people responded.)

He was insightful, strong, and on the attack whenever Frum put a whopper out there.

I am very proud to support him!

Edited on Sat Apr-16-05 03:06 PM by ClarkUSA
Heh heh. Wes Clark sets Bill Maher straight on Maher's recent lovefest with Bush Middle East doctrine. Gert Clark sets rightwingnut Frum straight and Wes Jr. just chillin'.

Does anyone have to ask why we admire and respect this man, his family and their modus operandi?
