Jane Fonda on Hardball tonight, (friday) 7pm (et)
from Tweety's website:

Jane Fonda is now apologizing for visiting the enemy during the Vietnam war. So why did it take her three decades to say I'm sorry. Find out tonight, when she plays Hardball with Chris.

=============

I don't think he's getting the "scoop" on this? I recall she's apologized a long time ago ! I think the problem is the VN vets who won't forgive her (or Kerry).

1. She apologized years ago
You are right , people are getting mileage out of refusing to forgive her. I have no respect those people. Tweety is just capitalizing on that sentiment.

2. That's what I thought...
I may drop Matthews a little note and tell him to stop being such a drama queen :)

I think it was 60 minutes (w/Leslie Stahl?) that Jane addressed the forgiveness issue with the vets. They still want to blame her for losing the war, and not the politicians who sent them there.

3. Trust me on this....Tweety will go after her
like we have only seen him go after the Clintons....hope she is ready for him...I am sure it will not be "nicey nice".

Tweety has wanted to rip her ass for decades...he gets that chance tonight. I wonder if he will be able to contain himself, or will we see him have a stroke live on TV?

15. Sure he'll go after her. She's a woman
and she has more sense than to get on her knees for corporate masters like the television host.

To be fair, he probably still gets half hard looking at pics of her in Barbarella. Ah for the times Tweety feels semi-potent!

4. I Saw Jane Fonda
on NPR and she did not apologize for going to N. Viet Nam, She apologized for taking a picture on the tank. She said it was hurtful to the men who served. she did not apologize ever for protesting the war.

6. I wouldn't have apologized for protesting the war
She shouldn't have to, either.

And that was also a big part of the breakup with Turner.

Is that so? Anyone know?

9. If She is Born Again
she was talking about Pro Choice and bush's gag order etc. They are going to "un-born" her real soon.

10. Yep -A Google search turns up articles -she was converted by her chauffer!
Friends say the path of Fonda's spiritual conversion began two years ago when her chauffeur began witnessing to the actress about his faith in Jesus Christ. At first, Fonda was reportedly troubled by those conversations. Later, she began to welcome them and attend church with her chauffeur.

"Her faith is very real, very deep," said one insider. "Of course, with any celebrity conversion, the pressures can be enormous, But she is serious about her faith and regularly attends Bible study and church."

11. Which explains the "forgiveness"
The conversion was what I heard about recently as well. Two plus two equals four on this one. I wonder if she'll be proselytizing.

12. The scoop, for many people, is her born-again christian status -

She has said that her feminism clashes with the "patriarchal, hierarchal structure" of Christianity so she's working on trying to resolve that.

13. Snopes.com summary
http://www.snopes.com/military/fonda.asp

Also details some of her apologies, which were years ago. But for some, I guess it'll never be enough. Also explains the differences between "treason" and "freedom of speech".

16. Chris Matthews is a loud, clueless media whore...
...and Jane, while smart, honest, and unfairly persecuted, has been vastly overexposed in the past two weeks or so.

18. You won't sell many books...
...if everyone is sick of the story you're selling by the time they return to their corner bookstore. I've personally heard her twice on NPR (two different shows), once on 60 minutes and once on another cable news show. It's too much. And that has nothing to do with the fact that she is a woman, a controversial figure, or a born-again christian.
