Poll question: If you could have any of the following as the '08 nominee--who?
These people may or may not run in '08--but if you could magically determine who the '08 nominee was--who would you choose?

1. Boxer
Edited on Thu Apr-14-05 01:28 PM by BattyDem
I like a politician with balls ... so of course I'd choose her over the men! :P ;-)

(Sorry, I couldn't resist that one ... it's crude, but it's true.)

On edit: Ok ... so some of those guys do have what it takes, but Boxer has impressed the hell out of me in recent months. Seriously, I'd be proud to have her representing my country. :-)

Keep in mind what happened to the last (very recent) poll thread.

Well, maybe preemptively talking about them will keep them at bay. Naaaw, just kidding.

16. KERRY HAS UNFINISHED BIZ
There are an awful lot of folks, myself included , who believe Kerry is still the best. Look, since he was the real winner,he really IS our prez, unfortunately there is a chimp in the way, thugs and the republican mafia. I truly believe the truth will come out! Let's be patient! Clint Curtis, etc. John Conyers, and so many others are not going to let up on this fraud story!
However, I believe Boxer is fantastic,Clark as well, maybe even Feingold-not Hilary-although I used to think she was alright, I sometimes wonder. Dems do NOT need to change their liberal messages!!!! They need better campaign managers, and need to listen to their gut feelings when it comes to SWIFT BOAT stuff, and tell the world what they think!!!

22. Can I assume use of "skew" was neutral and not implying wrong doing?
I have already conceded numerous times that Clark has a much higher degree of support at DU than virtually anywhere else. That's all you are saying, right?

23. I use it in regards to statistics only-it is skewed by Clark support group
over representation, and I think you know that by now, Tom Rinaldo, since you acknowledge that fact too. That's all it means.

24. No hard feelings. What I acknowledge is
that a much higher percentage of DU members than is the norm for general public/Democratic circles are supportive of Wes Clark running for President. I acknowledge that quite a few active Clark supporters post at DU and make an ongoing effort to let people know about Clark's varied ongoing activities, among other things. I have said that much more information about Wes Clark is available at DU than at other places as a result

Some other Democrats have active support groups here also.

I do not think these polls are meaningful, but that is just my opinion. I do not start them for that reason. I prefer positive discussions about Democrats. For example, I like being able to learn more about Russ Feingold here at DU because of the efforts being made by those who know and like him to share information on him.

26. Why don't you drop by the Clark group?
Edited on Thu Apr-14-05 03:24 PM by Tom Rinaldo
I will give you a few leads here now, but any extended talk would probably work out better on a less general/neutral thread.

To most enjoyable way to learn about Clark would be this thread, which is a running list of favorite quotes by him; some in speeches, some ad lib. It runs the spectrum, is a good read, and will give you a sense of who he is and what he believes in:http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=235&topic_id=3434&mesg_id=3434

This thread is a great collection of Clark related links to a host of information about and/or from him:http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=235x6296

Here is Clark's current web site and it includes news, statements, and discussion: http://securingamerica.com/

This is Clark's old archived 2004 Campaign site with all of his positions on issues taken then still available, and more: http://www.clark04.com/index.html

But do drop by the Clark support group for a discussion about him if you want. The first two links above lead there.

28. That was a long read, but I'm glad I took the time
Edited on Thu Apr-14-05 04:05 PM by IanDB1
Thanks for posting that!

OK, so I'd be happy with a Boxer/Clark or Clark/Boxer ticket.

Or maybe Clark and Boxer could just make babies together.

I think I would have loved to see Clark tell Bush during the debates, "Mr. President, you are a liar. You lied to the American people and you are lying to them now."

That would have been far more effective than John Kerry's, "The President is not being straight with the American people."

I think Clark would have-- and has-- called a liar a liar in language the average American can understand.

I kept kicking myself every time Kerry said Bush was "misleading" or "not being straight." I kept shouting, "just call him a LIAR!"

After what I just read, I like Clark better than Kerry or Dean.

I still think I like Barbara Boxer better, though.

Maybe we could resurrect the position of Surgeon General and give the job to Dr. Howard Dean.

36. I'm glad you took the time to read it, Ian.
And I'm glad you liked what you read.

Clark isn't one to mince words. You know how I converted my Mom? Well, I didn't do it, Clark did it on his own...but I don't have cable and every time I was alerted to an upcoming cable Clark appearance, before he decided to get in the race and then while he was running, I'd call my Mom and she'd tape it for me and then give me the tape to watch next time I saw her.

I'd call her after an appearance and ask how she thought he did and she'd say "I'm worried about your guy"...I'd say "Why, did he look sick, tired, did he give a bad interview, did they ask him a question he couldn't answer, what?" And she'd say "I'm afraid they're going to come after him. (They meaning the Bush people.) He just says what he feels and he doesn't back down, even when the interviewer gives him a chance to back down, he doesn't back down. He just goes right at Bush and I'm afraid they're going to come after him." I think she was really worried for his physical safety.

She was a Gephardt supporter and I respected that and really didn't try to turn her into a Clark supporter but she really was impressed with his fearlessness in those TV appearances. I knew he had her hooked when she stopped calling him "your guy" and started calling him "Wes". :)

Did you watch any of the videos over at www.u-wes-a.com?

Some great stuff there.

31. Last I checked....
Boxer, Clinton and Feingold don't even have a DU Group !

Why should I care about them?

I r/o Clark everytime, because I'm not sure his DU base is helping him here.

I adore Kucinich, and hope he gets to run that Dept of Peace soon!

That usually leaves Gore, Kerry and Edwards on most of these things....so I vote Edwards!
