Update

I made my own translation as the one from Babelfish was really bad.

Citizens of The Hague file lawsuit for adjournment of Bush

The Hague - A group of citizens from The Hague have filed a lawsuit against the state in order to allow for the arrest of president Bush as soon as he sets his feet on Dutch soil. Bush will visit The Netherlands in the beginning of this may.
The applicants want the statesman to be arrested for "many severe violations of the Geneva Convention".
The applicants include 'The Hague Peace Platform', 'The Hague City Party' and some citizens from The Hague. Also part of the group are people and organisations that have campaigned against Bush's wars and Guantanamo Bay, the American prison on Cuba. On April 29 the court will decide on their case.
The citizens of The Hague want the court to at least define Bush as unwanted person and deny him access to the country. They hope that The Netherlands, or another country, will handover Bush to the International Criminal Court.

1. OK, I'm going to sound like a rethug, but this is crazy
look, the Geneva Convention decides who it will put to trial, not a single country or a small group of people. Yes, I think Bush should have to face what he has done but this is just idiotic.

5. Actually, the genocide and torture conventions call on each country
to enforce its provisions. If the national government in the state in which these crimes have taken place can't or won't prosecute, it is then left to each signatory state to take action.

Not idiotic, at all. That's why Chile was eventually forced to deal with Pinochet, after the Brits took the first step toward prosecution.

If only they would do the same favor for us, their former crown subjects.

7. Tell it to Pinochet. I like that people are paying attention though..
maybe some folks in many countries will push the issue...

There are a number of reports of the US using naplam and white phospherous as well as the obvious saction of torture from the White House as well as the failure to provide security for the civilians, besides the whole illegal aspects of the war.

Among a number of issues.

While I'm skepticle of the political chances of such an audacious move, I'm still intregued with the basic ethics of such a move. I bet it would play well around the world, but it might cause many unforseeable responses.

Would the US attack the Netherlands to do a hostage rescue on a US president held for war crimes?

I gues that's the difference between a former leader of Chile and a current leader of the US, when it comes to international justice for crimes agaist humanity.

10. It's for a judge to decide whether or not the Convention was violated.
The convention itself can't decide since it's just a piece of paper.

And Bush wouldn't appear before a judge unless there's a lawsuit filed against him.

6. It would be quite interesting to see what countries stood up for Shrub
if he was detained by such a little country. Do you think Russia would stand up for the U.S.? Would a lot of countries jump on the band wagon and tell Shrub he deserves it?
