OMG...Open that can of snakes! Alexander Strategy Group/Delay/Buckham
Edited on Thu Apr-07-05 03:06 PM by KoKo01
Thanks to Buzzflash for this info from "Disinfopedia." If we can expose Delay and this Alexander Strategy Group we have a good chance of hobbling the Repug Beast and thwarting some of it's more malevolent games against us. Blackwater Mercenaries for hire is one of their clients, too. Those "Private Contractors" making mucho $$$$$$ over in Iraq and Afghanistan who got in trouble in Falujah.

PLEASE READ THE WHOLE LINK, I could only snip a little and it's a real shocker:

From Disinfopedia: (3MX)

Alexander Strategy Group (3MY)

The Alexander Strategy Group (ASG) is a Republican Party-associated lobbying and political strategy firm with offices in Washington and Hong Kong. ASG was founded by Ed Buckham, the former chief of staff to Texas GOP Congressman and House Majority Whip Tom DeLay?, and Tony Rudy, a lobbyist for pharmaceutical companies and also a former top aide to DeLay?. (3MZ)

According to its website: "Unlike traditional lobbying firms, Alexander Strategy Group offers an integrated suite of advocacy services that includes government affairs, strategic consulting, public relations, grassroots development, creative media, international representation, coalition building, business development and corporate/crisis communications."<4> And, from a press release: ASG has "worked extensively with the Executive and Legislative branches of government, been involved in numerous Presidential and Congressional campaigns, forged alliances with numerous conservative advocacy groups and worked at the highest levels of the international arena."<5> (3N1)
(SNIP)

The North Carolina-based private military contractor Blackwater USA hired ASG for crisis management, public and media relations as Blackwater - and private military contractors in general - came under increased public scrutiny following the public killing and mutilation of four employees in Fallujah, Iraq on March 31, 2004. <8> (3N3)

Other ASG clients include the Coalition of Airline Pilots Associations, the Asbestos Study Group<9>, Time Warner, National Association of Convenience Stores, the National Housing & Rehabilitation Association<10>, AT&T<11>, the Alliance for Automobile Manufacturers, Agriculture Coalition for Immigration Reform, Eli Lilly, KOCH Industries, Microsoft, Nuclear Energy Institute, Xcel Energy and United States Telecom Association.<12> (3N4)

3. "Other ASG clients include...the Asbestos Study Group"
PR WATCH - What were the largest lobbying contracts on Washington DC's power corridor, K Street, in 2004? According to The Hill, top honors go to the Asbestos Study Group, who paid $5.5 million for six months of "lobbying and substantive expertise." The Asbestos Study Group is "a group of large companies that have been defendants in asbestos lawsuits," including Halliburton and Viacom. The "Patient Safety - Pharmaceutical Systems Group," which includes Pfizer, Wyeth, Johnson & Johnson and other drug companies, paid $1.4 million for lobbying on "general patient safety and related pharmaceutical issues." Other major lobbiers include the Business Roundtable, Microsoft, United Airlines and Hewlett Packard.

9. Asbestos? Did somebody say asbestos?
Edited on Thu Apr-07-05 04:14 PM by SpiralHawk
That substance is some majorly fugly stuff for Bush & corporate cronies. They have pulled -- and are pulling -- so much fugly stuff on the people of the United States around asbestos.

Wake up America. We are getting screwed -- and poisoned -- by Bush and his rich corporate cronies.

But on the bright side, if more US citizens develop lung diseases associated with asbestos, it could mean a boost to the bottom-line profits of legal Drug Companies, and Profit-Making "Health Care" Corporations.

What's good for BushCo, is good for BushCo.

11. And guess who used to work for ASG ... Brian H. Darling!
Edited on Thu Apr-07-05 04:38 PM by DemoTex
The legal counsel to Sen. Mel Martinez (R-Fla.) admitted yesterday that he was the author of a memo citing the political advantage to Republicans of intervening in the case of Terri Schiavo, the senator said in an interview last night.

Brian H. Darling, 39, a former lobbyist for the Alexander Strategy Group on gun rights and other issues, offered his resignation and it was immediately accepted, Martinez said.

Randi Rhodes was making the connection between Delay, Martinez and Darling very clear in the first hour of her show.

Personally, I hope Delay holds on for another 6 months at least. I think he is so tainted that the 2006 elections will swing to the left. Since the Amurkan people have short memories, it is necessary that this come crashing down closer to election time.

Brian Darling sort of stuck out in my mind from stuff he e-mailed me after 9/11.

I did check on Google and found he'd (Darling) worked for American Flight Deck attendants (as a paid lobbyist) in trying to "beef up security." That article was much less innocuous than what I posted here.

Hey, maybe he did some good stuff for American...but his other half is evil. I know folks are more complicated that they appear.

24. Randi's point was that this went well beyond Delay ...
linking a couple of aides in Martinez's office back to Delay is yet another important story that will not make any substantial progress for Democrats ... frankly, the republicans are probably about ready to toss Delay to the sharks anyway ...

but there is a greater evil that's been outed with this incident ... and that is the republican media spin machine ... they were all over the lie that Democrats forged this memo and leaked it to the press ... the whole vast right-wing conspiracy got into the act on this one ...

and those in the media who claim to be objective, those who parroted every word the rovian spinmeisters peddled about this, will now do what ??? will they uncover the channels of lies? will they stop listening to spin from the right-wing? will they start being real journalists who protect the truth to help the country?

yeah, right ... way right ...

15. Because of Delay's ties with people scamming Native Americans
might want to keep an eye on Native American Private Military Companies. I had a couple names but am still looking for them.

Buy Native American

Military contractors have also recently been exploiting another major loophole to win lucrative contracts by partnering with corporations run by native American tribes, because tribal companies enjoy special status under law that allow them to receive contracts without first competing against other companies.

Recent news stories have reported that after landing the contracts, the tribal businesses – mostly Alaska native corporations – then frequently subcontract the work, according to writer Michael Scherer of Mother Jones magazine.

“The system was established in the mid-1990s to help native communities, where unemployment rates often exceed 40 percent,” Scherer notes in the January 2005 issue. “It has also become a way for large corporations with no Native American ownership to receive no-bid contracts, an avenue for federal officials to steer work to favored companies, and a device for speeding privatization.”

One tribal company, Olgoonik Corporation, won a $225 million contract for construction work on U.S. military bases and embassies, but much of the actual work is being done by Halliburton, Scherer reports. (See also Private Company Manages Daily Bombing of Korean Village)

The Los Angeles Times also recently identified two similar contracts worth as much as $1 billion signed with two small Alaska Native firms for security services as 36 military bases without competitive bidding. Part of the work was then subcontracted to two of the country's largest security firms: Wackenhut Services and Vance Federal Security Services, despite the fact that the same two companies both lost in contract competitions against other companies for similar security contracts, according to reporter T. Christian Miller.

Congressional Democrats have called for further investigation saying that such arrangements are “sleight of hand.”

Probe of Security Contracts Sought
Some Post-9/11 Awards Given Without Bids to Native Alaskans

By Scott Higham and Robert O'Harrow Jr.
Washington Post Staff Writers
Saturday, March 5, 2005; Page A04

Federal lawmakers yesterday called for a congressional investigation into a flurry of homeland-security-related contracts that were awarded after the 2001 terrorist attacks to Alaska Native Corporations, many of them without competitive bidding.

Rep. Thomas M. Davis III (R-Va.), chairman of the House Government Reform Committee, and the panel's ranking Democrat, Rep. Henry A. Waxman (Calif.), also requested contract documents from the Department of Homeland Security, the Pentagon and the State Department.

The lawmakers asked the Government Accountability Office, the investigative arm of Congress, to examine the reliance on Alaska Native Corporations for homeland security and military contracts worth as much as $2.2 billion.

"This could be turning into a scam because of the sole-source nature of these contracts," Davis said. "The purpose of federal procurement is to make sure taxpayers are getting their dollars' worth."

...

Chris McNeil Jr., chairman of the Native American Contractors Association and chief executive of one of the largest Alaska Native Corporations, Sealaska Corp., said in a statement that the contract program "is working as Congress intended -- finally building tribal, sustainable economies that train our people, return a profit to our tribal members (numbering in the tens of thousands), educate Native American children and raise our communities out of poverty."

Alaska Native Corporations have won contracts to provide security at military installations, maintain sophisticated scanning machines at ports and borders, build U.S. military bases and provide information technology assistance for the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.

Mention champagne and a hottub and folks suddenly get interested. Once they are hooked, then the other stuff just fuels their interest, especially the baby shower story.

We need to use this to our advantage.

We also need to link *'s name with Delay's at every turn until they become one word:

bushanddelay, bushanddelay, bushanddelay, bushanddelay
