A Reminder of Valerie Plame
Watching West Wing last night (where national security might have been compromised by a leak to the media about an endangered orbital station) reminded me of the Valerie Plame case. On West Wing, the President got engaged and ordered a full and complete investigation, including the White House, demanded a name on his desk "by Friday."

Contrast this with the Bush White House stonewalling the whole thing.
So far, nothing has come of the investigation. It took a TV show to point out the differences. It's time to goad the media into revisiting this stinker.

BTW, for those of you who watched, didn't Jimmy Smits' "integrity" speech, which turned the tide for him remind you of Wes Clark and his lifetime of "country first" integrity?

2. There was also talk of going to Jail for leaking
I'm pretty sure CJ did it, but not on purpose.

Leo as VP, cool idea but I truly believe Hawkeye will be elected President. Another premonition, a moderate gains control of the gop.

The Plame leak occurred 20 months ago. How long does it take to find out who made a phone call?

6. You may be right
about Alan Alda's character winning in the fall. That would be true Hollywood, as if someone decent and moderate could win the Rethug nomination.

3. good point
the speech was great, by the way, so was the entire episode. As a fan of the show (Seasons 1-4 are sitting right next to me) it was good to see it vibrant again.

Anyway, someone once told me that Novak had previously revealed a source, something about an FBI investigation, sometime in early 2001. I don't have LexisNexis, but if someone does and could check that out, it would be nice.

already knows who leaked it. my vote is for karl'slimeball' rove who let it slip during some pillow talk with gannon/guckert.

5. Now you know
"On West Wing, the President got engaged and ordered a full and complete investigation, including the White House, demanded a name on his desk "by Friday."

"Contrast this with the Bush White House stonewalling the whole thing."

Now you know what TV and Hollywood are meant to do to your perception of reality.

CIA Leak Probe Done, Minus Some Testimony
The Associated Press

Wednesday 06 April 2005

Washington -- The federal prosecutor investigating the leak of an undercover CIA officer's name says his work is complete except for one large omission: hearing from two reporters who are fighting a court order to answer questions under oath.

Chicago U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald said the refusal of Matthew Cooper of Time magazine and Judith Miller of The New York Times to divulge their sources has stalled his probe.

Neither Cooper nor Miller wrote the original story that revealed the identity of CIA officer Valerie Plame. Her name was first published in a 2003 column by Robert Novak, who cited two unidentified senior Bush administration officials as his sources.

It is unclear whether Novak has cooperated with the investigation or whether the grand jury hearing evidence has returned any indictments. Fitzgerald is trying to determine who leaked the name and whether that was a crime.
