MSNBC: "Strong plurality (48%) still approves of Bush’s job performance"
Americans not satisfied with country’s track

NBC/WSJ poll shows concern with Schiavo case, Social Security

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7407269/

Over the past several weeks, the American public has watched Washington tie itself in knots over whether or not to get involved in the case over Terri Schiavo’s feeding tube, over the role of the judiciary in such situations and over Social Security’s future. And according to the newest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, the public doesn’t necessarily like this whole picture: Only a third believes the country is headed on the right track, an overwhelming majority says Congress should not intervene in cases like Schiavo’s and overall support for President Bush’s proposal to overhaul Social Security is declining. Despite it all, however, a strong plurality says it still approves of President Bush’s job performance.

The poll, conducted by Hart/McInturff, shows that only 34 percent of those polled believe that the country is headed in the right direction, compared with 51 percent who say it’s headed in the wrong direction. That’s a significant drop from the last survey in February, when 42 percent said the nation was on the right track.

In addition, approval of Bush’s handling of the economy has declined 5 points, from 46 percent in February to 41 percent in this survey — the lowest point of his presidency. (Bush’s economic-handling approval also reached 41 percent in the May 2004 NBC/Journal survey.)

Despite the numbers for Bush regarding the nation’s direction, the economy, the Schiavo case and Social Security, the poll finds that a plurality — by a margin of 48 percent to 46 percent — approves of Bush’s job performance. That’s a slight decrease from February, when Bush enjoyed a job rating of 50 percent to 45 percent. “There’s a real core stability in this guy’s standing,” McInturff said.

1. There's so much wrong with that title, it's unreal. Why didn't they just
find a way to use the word: mandate./

10. Why not say, "Americans not satisfied with country's track" that's what
the actual title said.

7. I posted excerpts from a news item a few days ago...
...which said that at this point in his second term, Bush is 10 points BELOW the worst ratings Ronald Reagan got in his entire second term.

It's a MANDATE! The 'murcan people have SPOKEN!

4. WTF? What do they mean by "strong plurality" ... that there is more
than one Bush fan in America? That's really not such a ringing endorsement.

18. plurality means more than the other but less than half
Edited on Thu Apr-07-05 11:03 AM by sparosnare
does that make sense? A majority is 50% or more; a plurality is less than 50%, but still more than the the opponent or opposing view. Adding the word "strong" in this instance is misleading.

11. 48% to 46% (within the margin of error!!) is NOT a 'strong' plurality.
Edited on Thu Apr-07-05 10:47 AM by TahitiNut
That's not just spin - that's a complete falsehood! Where the fuck is the scramble to claim it's a "statistical tie" just like they did in the election polls whenever a Democrat led a Republican by a narrow margin? Fucking liars!

21. And they also did not mention that he's dropped
since last they took the poll:

3/31 - 4/3/05: Approve: 48; Disapprove: 46; Unsure: 6
Feb: 10-14/05: Approve: 50; Disapprove: 45; Unsure: 5

So, you can see, his approval dropped from 50 to 48 percent and his disapproval rate rose from 45 to 45 percent.

I'm sick of this crap. Give me the dough and I'll get you the results! It's a business and I understand why they don't qualify these polls with "BTW, we're total whores so these results do not mean anything at all!"

I'm just annoyed at seeing this.

26. The real truth is that there is a "Strong Plurality" of Liars at MSNBC/GE
The major corporate media has moved beyond the absurd in their manufacturing of "fake" news stories designed to sheild BushCo. from harm. Almost the entire American corporate media structure is corrupted. Tell everyone you know!

27. I think the bigger picture is
with all that has gone wrong...war, bad economy, corruption, deficits, Abu Gharib, 9/11 attack, that this guy has 48%, & some polls are as low as 45%, is unbelievable.

Talk about a Teflon President...that so many people still approve is truly shocking!

28. A wartime leader with the full backing of the mainstream media ...
... and he STILL can't break past 50%?

The more accurate observation is that more than half the country doesn't think he's doing an adequate job.

If my employment evaluations looked like that, I'd be fired.

isn't flipping MSNBC the bird right now.

Media whoredom has long since left the lair of spin, and has safely settled into the realm of outright farce.

31. One Wonders The Usefulness Of Paying Attention To This Anymore
Edited on Thu Apr-07-05 05:27 PM by TheWatcher
We don't have a Free Press in this country anymore, nor do we have representative government, a voice in how our country is run, or even the right to freely chose and elect those who run it.

This is pretty much going to be the standard from here on out for the Media, and it will be surprising if it doesn't get worse.

This is Propaganda 101, and a textbook example of attempting to label a complete disaster as as a "Stable, Resilient Indicator of Support".

This headline should definitely be a "Strong, Resilient Indicator" That Websters needs to revise ALL of it's dictionaries with the proper spelling of our country's name.

"AmeriKa."
