ABC WNT included hidden camera footage in Delay report last night
ABC finally reported on it.

http://www.abcnews.go.com/WNT/Investigation/story?id=647725&page=1

April 6, 2005 — A Washington lobbyist under federal investigation for his lobbying activities arranged a lavish overseas trip to the island of Saipan for House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, over the New Year's holiday in 1997.

After touring one garment plant, DeLay praised Saipan at the New Year's Eve party attended by top factory owners.

"You represent everything that is good about what we are trying to do in America," DeLay said at the time to his audience, which included Saipan officials and factory owners.

Later, according to a recording made by a human rights investigator posing as a potential customer, one of the prominent factory owners said that DeLay had promised to stop the reform laws.

-cut to hidden camera footage on the telecast-
"Do you know what Tom told me?" Willie Tan said. "He said, 'Willie, if they elect me majority whip, I make the schedule of the Congress, and I'm not going to put it on the schedule.' So Tom told me, 'Forget it, Willie. No chance.' "

1. I watch ABC and saw it. Finally, someone
hunted down the truth and actually exposed it on national tee-vee. I was elated! :bounce:

2. This is it for Delay
F-ing
Smoking
Gun

Yeah, yeah, I know...we hear this a lot but I don't think I've ever seen anything this damning to a public official. The only thing better would have been catching him in bed with two teenage boys, a goat, and another Congressman's wife.....

5. No more troublesome schedule-making for the bugman.
Soon enough the helpful prison staff will be telling him when it's time to eat, sleep, make water, and exercise.
Your friends have cut you adrift, Master Tom...

6. One depressing thing about all this
is the typical "blood in the water" reaction from the media and other interests. If DeLay was corrupt all along--and from what Beltway insiders say, most everyone thought so--it's pretty damn cowardly to wait until you judge he's seriously wounded to rush in and add your bites.

DeLay's Saipan visit was in 1997. That's 8 years that someone sat on this information, sigh.

7. Delay sets a whole new standard for asshole
Is there an end to the crap he's done? At this point, I could be convinced that he just took a list of ethics rules and began checking them off one by one until he managed to break every rule conceivable.

Heard some pundit on NPR about 3 weeks ago saying the Bush people aren't too crazy about DeLay anyway and have a "Bush loyalist" lined up for his job.Another Congressman from Texas,I can't remember who.

15. Yes he does, it becomes more obvious every day
These old stories are suddenly new "news". They are obviously being released because the * regime wants them to be. Delay is done.

Hopefully, he'll go to jail, too.

12. The Abramoff tie from 1997 might just get him convicted! Great News...
see the snip I posted below. Before I read the whole article from the link I felt like you..."nothing to see here..move along." But it's more significant than Underpants snippit....it's the link the prosecuters need to convict and I bet it was leaked to ABC by someone working with Eberle in Texas.

11. Wait....check out this snip!..this is the tie in to Abramoff! 1997!
Remember Delay has denied having any connections with Abramoff. And, that's what Eberle's case rests on with the Lobbying money. ABC is reporting that Abramoff sponsered the trip in 1997. This is significant.

Snip:'

The DeLay trip to the South Pacific island, originally reported by a "20/20" investigation, was part of an effort by former aide Jack Abramoff to stop legislation aimed at cracking down on sweatshops and sex shops in the American territory, which is known as the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

Abramoff, who was working for the law firm Preston Gates Ellis and Rouvelas Meeds LLP at the time, was paid $1.36 million by Saipan officials and wrote in a memo obtained by ABC News that such congressional trips were "one of the most effective ways to build permanent friends on the Hill."

Abramoff is now under federal investigation for his lobbying activities, including Saipan, according to a source familiar with the investigation.

Andrew Blum, a spokesman for Abramoff's attorney, said on behalf of Abramoff that they did not comment on pending grand jury investigations.

13. Yep-good catch- Delay is PRO Sex Slavery
Edited on Thu Apr-07-05 09:54 AM by underpants
I could only post so many paragraphs.

Yep that stood out on the report. If he isn't PRO Sex Slavery he at least takes sex slavery money and seems to be in their hip pocket.

Culture of what kind of life?

I would not be suprised one bit to learn Ol' Hot Tub has covered all his bets....we know he lies, cheats and steals...so who is to say he is above blackmail....How else can a man who breaks, bends and twists the law be able to crack te whip and get so many in congress to jump through the hoop.

what investigative reporting really is. I figure they'll be getting lots of "christian" hate mail for this story, and could use some reassurance

20. Sounds like a Michael "Money Talks, Bullshit Walks" Myers moment...
In 1980, the FBI pulled off its first major sting operation aimed at members of Congress, using front men posing as Arab businessmen willing to bribe any members of Congress (Senators and Representatives) willing to accept it for doing favors. They nabbed half a dozen, with the cameras rolling. One of them was Michael Myers, Congressman from South Philly (a place with a distinctive accent and a distinctive way of talking), who urged the "businessmen" to cut to the chase with the words: "Money talks, bullshit walks." He spent a few years in jail, but he's out now, of course.

I believe I remember seeing an undercover video of this shown on national news. We can only hope the same fate awaits BugMan.
