"Author of Shiavo Memo Steps Forward"--MSNBC

Author of Schiavo memo steps forward
Sen. Martinez accepts senior aide’s resignationBy Mike Allen

Updated: 11:33 p.m. ET April 6, 2005The legal counsel to Sen. Mel Martinez (R-Fla.) admitted yesterday that he was the author of a memo citing the political advantage to Republicans of intervening in the case of Terri Schiavo, the senator said in an interview last night.

Brian Darling, a former lobbyist for the Alexander Strategy Group on gun rights and other issues, offered his resignation and it was immediately accepted, Martinez said.

Martinez said he earlier had been assured by aides that his office had nothing to do with producing the memo. "I never did an investigation, as such," he said. "I just took it for granted that we wouldn't be that stupid. It was never my intention to in any way politicize this issue."

11. The Republicans ALWAYS cry "LONE WOLF" when they get caught. Remember
Iraqgate where the Bushies were neckdeep into supplying Saddam with billions of dollars and bioweapons against the orders of the Democratic congress who cut off all military aid to Iraq.

The Bushies pointed a finger at the 35yo bank manager in Atlanta as the culprit. At first, he fought the charges and then gave in for a light sentence. He supposedly "died" in prison a few years later, but the press was not told until after a week that he "died" of natural causes.

Christopher Drouget was his name, I believe. The early court papers were very revealing about the BFEE tactics. No surprise it was Henry Kissinger who OK'd the transfer of the money.

13. To be honest, the Republicans were alleging the Dems wrote
this one.

More egg on their faces that will never see the light of talk radio or punditry television. *sigh*

14. They KNEW the Dems didn't write it. They thought their coverup might stick
and that they wouldn't get caught.

Not a ONE of them ever really believed that the Dems wrote it. Not ONE. They are just so used to lying and blaming Democrats that lie was the first tool they picked up for cover.

3. And in a non-reported story
Brian Darling will be hired later this week by some other Republican congressional office or lobbying firm immediately.

4. martinez is just as right and as crooked as the guy who wrote the memo...
he, in fact, is a cuban **##** -- who went around smearing his opponent in the florida elections. too bad he can't be immediately made to step down from his senatorship.

But there are soooo many more to go...

7. Working draft my ass
<snip>
Harkin said in an interview that Martinez handed him the memo on the Senate floor, in hopes of gaining his support for the bill giving federal courts jurisdiction in the Florida case in an effort to restore the Florida woman's feeding tube. "He said these were talking points -- something that we're working on here," Harkin said.

</snip>

Can't have it both ways dude, no matter how you slice it. You knew and if it had been a great success, you would be waiting for the pats on the back from your buddies. Sometimes you get the elevator and sometimes you get the shaft. You can be all done now, you first termer. You are insignificant to your party now and a huge liability. Thanks for taking one for OUR team!

15. Author "steps forward" - HAH!
More like "Author, cornered and trapped like a rat, squeals and skitters away to the private sector; Senator who employed him hopes he doesn't catch the plague"

The headline almost makes it sound like Darling 'fessed up voluntarily. Three weeks after the fact. Must have an extraordinarily slow-working conscience.

16. Harkin said in an interview
Edited on Thu Apr-07-05 12:25 PM by rocknation
that Martinez handed him the memo on the Senate floor, in hopes of gaining his support for the bill giving federal courts jurisdiction in the Florida case in an effort to restore the Florida woman's feeding tube. "He said these were talking points -- something that we're working on here," Harkin said.

And Martinez handed him the "wrong" memo? If it was the wrong memo, why did Martinez specifically refer to them as talking points in progress? If Martinez had INTENDED to give Harkin something else, it must have been ANOTHER set of talking points, right? How did it get from Darling to Martinez if Darling says he never circulated it and Martinez said he'd never seen it? And if this memo wasn't handed out to Republicans on the Senate floor, then how did THEY get a copy?

This story still has more gaps in it than Britney Spears' wardrobe!

17. I believe this goes straight to the top
We know Martinez has friends in high places, right? Like the White House? Karl Rove? Too many things don't add up to even make their "confession" bear scrutiny.
