2004 elections gave West Virginia Pro Life majoritys in every branch.

Supreme Court
State House
State Senate
Governor

Interestingly , the open Governor seat saw a Democrat win by a 2-1 margin.

Both Democratic congressmen have been Pro Life for decades , the lone Republican is Pro Choice. Both Democratic Senators are Pro Choice. Rockefellar won with 77% of the vote against a nobody in 1996 but his nobody opponent got 37% in 2002. Byrd hasnt won with less than 74% since 1988 when he won with 65%.

I figured Byrd would step down.Seems like he wont. His oponent will be the Pro Choice Capito and , that shows just how pathetic the GOPs bench is.The least Democratic district in the state is the district Capito holds. She won 48%-46% due to a major smear of her Democratic opponent in the 2000 open race. She was down by 30% in September of 2004 but a barrage of GOP ads hit her Democratic opponent hard over his late payment of taxes. She won with 59% in 2002 and 57% in 2004.

The most Democratic seat is held by Nick Rahall , Clinton won it by about 20% in 1996 where as he won the other 2 districts by less than 50%.Rahall is slightly contriversal and might not be able to safely beat Capito in 2008 if Rockefellar steps down.

Mollohan would clobber Capito as he would win his district big plus carry the heavy Democratic district of Rahall. He would hold Capito to no more than 55% of the vote in her district.

If the GOP had a bench then they could find a Pro Life candidate to take on Rockefellar in 2008 but they have nobody but Capito. She cant win IMO.

1. Please delete Repug term "Pro-Life" from your vocabulary
It is "Anti-Choice". Using Karl Rove slogans is NOT a good thing.

2. I dont think most of the country cares about what label is used.
Abortion is the most talked about issue in the media, universitys, etc. the country has ever seen.

Its like the difference in calling Hot Dogs "franks" or "weiners".

Its the one (and ONLY)issue everybody knows from top to bottom.

Unlike Hot Dogs everybody is 100% sick of the abortion issue though.
