When President Carter called the White House to say he wanted
to be a part of the delegation to attend the Pope's funeral, what do you suppose the conversation was before they responded?

It was announced that the legation is made up of GHW Bush, Clinton, Rice, Bush and Laura.

What, Air Force One doesn't have enough room for a Nobel Peace Prize winning former US President???

3. Like they took his call.
You think Bush is going to the funeral of the man who told him that war was bad with a nobel peace prize winner?

5. They'd never let Carter go along with them.
He's just an angry old man (I'd like to choke the repubs who said that after his DNC speech last year).

Truthfully, he's done more in his retirement from political life than all of these others combined - aside from taking payments to be on the Boards of Directors, what else has GHWB done in his retirement?

10. Carter is the only former recent President who has
devoted his post-Presidential life primarily to continued public service. A truly religious - in the best sense - man of peace, it's a crime that he is not heading up the US delegation to the Pope's funeral. He represents the best of America. Dumbass, arrogant, war-mongering, murdering chimp represents the worst, and it's a disgrace he's going at all.

6. Carter is the wrong kind of Born Again Christian
Edited on Tue Apr-05-05 03:54 PM by Coastie for Truth
He's a liberal - and he is evidence to the fact that a Born Again Christian can be a Progressive. Very disconcerting to President Bush.

I'm a better Christian then Bush - I think "Good Woks" is more important then "Faith", I have never been Baptized, I do not accept Jesus Christ as my personal savior, I am not a reformed alcoholic, I have never taken Communion -- and I spent Christmas Eve and Christmas with a "newly homeless" family (fire) and I worked 48 hours free in a homeless shelter last week. So, I'm a better Christian then Bush.

13. Unlike Clinton, Jimmy has not tried to ingratiate himself to the Bush's
Edited on Tue Apr-05-05 04:11 PM by WI_DEM
my opinion is that if Bush, Jr. is part of the delegation then GHW Bush can stay home and let Jimmy take his place. We don't need two Presient Bush's representing the US.

23. Arguably Clinton is in a different situation that Carter
in terms of a relationship with Bush.

It is very probable they will both be ex-presidents for 30-40 years, so they will need to coexist.

16. did GHW Bush ever even meet the Pope?
Why, other than the fact that he's Bush's father, is he going on the trip and not Carter?

Why Rice?

The 5 should be:

Bush I, Bush II, Clinton, Carter and Ford - all five living presidents.
