Draft Feingold movement gaining speed
Edited on Sat Apr-02-05 10:09 PM by usregimechange
I am still a Clarkie and a Deanie at heart but Feingold has been getting some attention of late. You got to give the man credit for having the courage to be the only US Senator to both vote against and read the "Patriot" Act.

A Democratic dark horse poised to emerge

Feingold's Judiciary spot
provides an '08 advantage

WASHINGTON - Wisconsin Sen. Russ Feingold, a blunt Midwestern maverick who isn't afraid to defy his party, is perfectly placed to make the kind of impression that gets a run for the presidential nomination off to a quick start.

Feingold, a potential 2008 Democratic hopeful, has what his more famous colleague from New York, Sen. Hillary Clinton, lacks: a starring role on a Senate committee that will repeatedly make big news over the next six months.

DraftRuss.com
The DraftRuss.com movement began in late 2004 in response to elections which had left the Democratic party with too many questions that demanded answers. We set out with the idea that Democrats - and America - needed someone who would not compromise his or her well-placed values, who would stand up to threats to our country and who would lead our nation to a new era of justice and prosperity. U.S. Senator Russ Feingold was the obvious choice.

1. The only thing I don't like
is his attitude about Presidential appointments. It seriously annoys me that he voted for Ashcroft, Gonzalez and others. I understand why and at least he's consistent, but I still don't like it.

Despite that, I really like him. Its pretty rare to have someone who is liberal, principled and electable and he may be it.

3. I like him because he damn well does what he thinks is right
He is authentic and that takes courage and principle. That is what we need imo.

17. He voted against Gonzales
While he generally supports allowing Presidents to pick their cabinets, even he thought Bush went too far this time.

2. I Could Support Russ Feingold
I am witholding my support for a candidate until I know what the field is going to consist of. I want the an electable candidate, and I believe Russ may fit that mold along with a few others.

He has a backbone of steel, that's for damn sure. Thanks for the links.

5. "THE ONLY member of Congress to return his pay raise
to the U.S. Treasury" Is that true?

Recently, the senator has been devoting his attention to the issue of Congressional pay raises. During his 1992 campaign, one of his three major campaign promises was that he would accept no pay raises during his term. Since then, he has returned more than $50,000 of pay raises to the U.S. Treasury. He is perhaps one of Congress's least wealthy members, with a declared net worth of $150,000.

6. Has anyone ever seen Feingold
give a rousing speech? I'm a Feingold supporter and have never heard one. As yet, I can't see him as "national" "horse-race" material.

Monotone policy-wonk statements are just sooo boring.

7. Nothing real energetic but he couldn't do worse than Kerry
and Kerry would have won with a few more votes in one state.

8. Kerry actually won the election, just like Gore did
before him. Talk of any Dem candidate is really irrelevant because the votes of the electorate no longer count. "Elections" no longer matter.

Jeb or 'whomever' the Torture Party runs next time will win. Game Over.

From what I've seen of Feingold's rhetorical skills, he would not be able to overcome the electronic voting scam. For a Dem to win, they would need at least 75% of the vote. Not gonna happen.

16. Ack, I hate cornflakes...
never mind the piss.

And I'm not talking about giving up.

BUT, perhaps you might explain how ANY Democrat can win, under ANY circumstances, with the current 'electronic' systems? Huh?

12. The Draft Russ Feingold movement is by far the largest right now.
Edited on Sat Apr-02-05 11:48 PM by nickshepDEM
Ill support him if he receives the nomination, but as of right now, I will be supporting one of the following in 2008.

1.) Governor Mark Warner (VA)
2.) Senator Evan Bayh (IN)
3.) John Edwards (NC)
