Pope given last rites
Vatican source: Ailing pontiff suffers from high fever with urinary tract infection

VATICAN CITY (CNN) -- Pope John Paul II was given the last rites of the Roman Catholic Church late Thursday night as his health deteriorated, a Vatican source has told CNN.

The sacrament does not necessarily mean that the pope is dying. Last rites -- also known as the sacrament of anointing the sick -- are commonly given to people who are seriously ill as well. The pope received the sacrament after he was shot by a would-be assassin in 1981.

The pope is suffering from a high fever caused by a urinary tract infection, the Vatican confirmed earlier Thursday -- one day after revealing he had been put on a nasal feeding tube for nutrition.

The pope is taking antibiotics, a Vatican spokesman said.

1. There's no plan to take him to the hospital
according to CNN tv.

I wonder what that means.

4. Wonder who the next pope will be
There's a lot of dissension right now. J2P2 has packed the College of Cardinals with very conservative types, but there is a more liberal wing.

5. Not only the left-right issue
But if I'm not wrong, most of the world's Catholics live in Central and South America.

A Latino pope is a real possibility.

6. THere's that
German Cardinal - Ratizan I think his name is. Very conservative. I've read he may be a contender.

10. Amazing how the American Pravda had this fall in their laps..
...right on the heels of Terri Schiavo...anything to serve as a diversion for....

Wolfowitz's being a virtual LOCK for head of the World Bank (what does a deputy director of defense know about money, other than spending it on one war after another?)

Rising gas prices (nuff said)

The continued attack on Social Security (with Bush making veiled threats at those on Capitol Hill who oppose him on this)

The continued mess in Iraq (notice how the media talks less and less about Iraq and more and more about Iran?)

The recruitment age for reserve components being raised from 35 to 40 (so the youth's parents can join in on getting whacked in the Middle East, since all the good jobs are still leaving for cheaper pastures)

The sale of fighter jets to Pakistan (a country who may be in on hiding Bin Laden, remmeber him?)

Gannongate (too well buried now to make it an issue anymore)

...and a host of other goodies. The Pope's failing health will make a nice complement to Michael Jackson in distracting the American sheeple from the fact that we are being ripped a TOTALLY new one, don't you think?
