The Terri saga goes on...Terri Schiavo Relatives Feud Over Burial
By MICHAEL RUBINKAM, Associated Press Writer

LEVITTOWN, Pa. - Terri Schiavo's ashes will be buried in an undisclosed location near Philadelphia so that her immediate family doesn't show up and turn the burial into a media spectacle, a member of the Schiavo family said Thursday.
If Mike knew they would come in peace, he would have no problem with it," Scott Schiavo, Michael Schiavo's brother, said during an interview at his home.

After an autopsy, Michael Schiavo plans to have his wife's body cremated and her ashes brought to Pennsylvania, where she grew up. Scott Schiavo said the ashes would be buried in a plot left by an aunt and uncle, but the family does not plan on providing the specficic location for the burial — underscoring the bitterness of the dispute.

Her parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, had fought for years to prevent her feeding tube from being removed, and they opposed cremation and wanted her buried in Florida.

Neither Terri Schiavo's parents nor her siblings addressed the issue of her burial in their remarks to reporters in Florida on Thursday. A spiritual adviser to her parents, Paul O'Donnell, said they plan to hold a Roman Catholic Mass without her body sometime next week.

Scott Schiavo said he received a stream of calls Thursday from people denouncing him. On his answering machine was a message from a man from Texas who called the Schiavo family murderers.

Police made visits Thursday to both Scott Schiavo's home and the home of his brother, William, in Philadelphia, as a result of threats to the families.

Scott Schiavo expressed relief that his sister-in-law's ordeal was over, and anger at those who have attacked the Schiavo family.
"This isn't over by a long shot, We're going to get our name right," he said. "The world is going to know who Mike was, they're going to know Mike wasn't a beast."

At Terri Schiavo's alma mater, Archbishop Wood High School in Warminster, workers changed a sign that read "Terri Schiavo, Class of 1981, We pray that you may live" to "We pray that you rest in peace."

1. They really need to scatter her ashes in an
undisclosed location, because no matter where they bury them, the fundies will find out, and dig them up..mark my words...

2. I would do the same as the husband
Those people had no respect for her privacy, no respect for the workers who donated their services to care for her, no respect for the judges that spent countless hours dealing with their multitude of lawsuits, no respect for her husband's loss. There's no reason to believe they'd behave with any respectfullness at a funeral.

6. bitterness is understandable of course
but it is still wrong. I say let the funeral proceed as Terri's religious beliefs require, with her parents in attendance, and then take the parents and anyone else Schiavo feels is appropriate to court in a libel and defamation suit.

3. This is still wrong. The parents should have the right to attend their
daughter's funeral.

4. I'm with the parents on this one
Apparently Terri was a Catholic. Cremation defies Catholic teachings. It's unfortunate this family tragedy has become so embittered that even this provides fuel for the voyeuristic media.

7. Actually it is not against
Catholic teachings. It was changed in 1963.

5. I'm glad the Schiavo family is coming out to support Michael
And maybe one of them knows how to pronounce their last name correctly.

8. Which is it!?
'At Terri Schiavo's alma mater, Archbishop Wood High School in Warminster, workers changed a sign that read "Terri Schiavo, Class of 1981, We pray that you may live" to "We pray that you rest in peace." '

Which is it, dumbasses? Did you pray that Terri would continue to live in either complete unconsciousness (or fleeting awareness of her misery) or did you pray that she rest in peace?
In my mind, one represents a true love and caring for her, the other represents unbelievable selfishness and arrogance. If Terri's feeding tube would have been re-attached, the Randall Terrys of the world would have returned to their existence as creators of misery whereever they go, happy in the fact that they were able to force and maintain Terri's nightmarish existence.

These people are truly sick.

10. Now that there is a Pennsylvania connection, will the Dems have a harder
time beating Santorum?

A little off topic, I know, but I'll bet there's fallout from this case in the Senatorial race.

11. Maybe some defamation suits coming up?
"This isn't over by a long shot, We're going to get our name right," he said. "The world is going to know who Mike was, they're going to know Mike wasn't a beast."

I can't say I blame them for it, if they do. The level of slander has been quite amazing. In a court of law, I don't believe saying "you can't prove a negative" will work (e.g. saying "you can't prove he didn't kill her"). Publicly stated defamatory allegations have to have some basis in fact, or at least be sincerely held (i.e. you really thought they were true).

Anyway, if this does happen it might be interesting. Tom Delay might regret some of this loose talk, for example. Maybe Jeb Bush too. And copious preachers.

13. I heard his lawyer was working pro bono.
I can't recall what the source was though - maybe just a thread here. I don't know whether he has any other sources of money. I suspect if he did, we would have heard of it as the religious right would have criticized them very publicly.

But anyone who helped him would be in deep doo-doo!
Think O'liely and Limpballs. Never mind...don't ruin your dinner.

15. This can't be much different than the Olympic bombing case (Jewell)
I remember the media ran that poor guy (Richard Jewell ?) through the ringer and all he turned out to be guilty of was being an over-enthusiastic LEO wanna-be.

I seem to remember the media got cleaned out financially when he took him to court for dragging his name through the mud.

I'm sure MS wants to get on with his life but if Jewell had a case I can't imagine that MS doesn't.
